Poppy is a 13 month old female Poochon, her mum Willow is our family pet. Willow had one litter of puppies born last September with Poppy being the one we chose to keep for ourselves. This is a very difficult post to write, and we’re not taking the decision lightly. Poppy is a young Poochon, born on 8 September 2025, and weighs around 6kg. We love her so very much, but we’re beginning to think our busy home may not be the right environment for her. Poppy is reactive to other dogs and has struggled to live safely alongside our other dogs, her mum included. Willow is Poppy’s mum, but living together doesn’t seem to suit them; we believe they would both be happier and safer apart. There have been serious fights involving Poppy, Willow and Daisy, all instigated by Poppy. During one incident, Poppy accidentally bit me instead of Daisy which required medical treatment. We’re looking for a calm, experienced, child-free home where Poppy would be the only pet — no other dogs or cats. I don’t believe she would intentionally hurt a person and nor does the clinical behaviourist we work alongside, but because she has bitten me once, we feel a home without children is the safest fit. Her new owner would also need to understand her reactivity and manage her carefully around other dogs. We’ve sought advice from behaviourists and would happily share the guidance and information we’ve received. Any further professional support would be for her new owner to decide, but we want to be completely open about what we’ve tried and what we’ve learned. This isn’t a decision made because Poppy is unwanted or unloved. She is loved beyond words and was born on my lap in our family home but we have tried so hard for the past 13 months and invested a very large amount of money and time into her training with very little results in order to desperately make this work. We want to find out whether there might be a home better suited to her needs, where she can have a quieter life and the right support and my other 3 dogs begin to enjoy their life again without constantly being on edge in fear of being attacked. The right home matters far more than a quick decision and I would like to make sure that the fit was right for everyone and conduct a slow and steady transition to ensure a forever home. In the home, alone, Poppy is a beautiful, loving and very cuddly pup. She loves to snooze with her chin rested on your shoulder. Outdoors she is reactive to men and other dogs and will bark and lunge. Though with the use of a 2posh2pull head collar this is reducing. Poppy is house trained, crate trained, travels well in the car and sleeps through the night. Please message with a little about your home, your experience with dogs and what you could offer Poppy.
