Description

I’m sadly looking to rehome my 11 month old cream cockapoo. This has been an incredibly difficult decision because I do love him and have tried for months to work through his behavioural difficulties. However I feel he needs a home better suited to his needs, where he can receive the time, patience and training he requires. I want to be completely honest with this add, so I can find him the right home. He is a very high energy, demanding adolescence dog who will need a patient owner willing to put time and effort into his ongoing training. His vaccinations, worming and flea treatment are up to date. He has not yet been neutered. He currently needs to put on some weight. He sleeps in a crate overnight and is accustomed to being in a crate when left alone otherwise he has been known to destroy the house. He loves scent games and activities that keep his mind occupied. He enjoys being around other high energy dogs but can become easily distracted. Teddy is a very excitable dog who struggles to settle and switch off. He needs continued training, consistent boundaries and plenty of appropriate mental and physical stimulation. Half of the time he pretends his ears don’t work. He does know some basic commands which he picked up quickly but will chose when to actually do them. He knows he shouldn’t be doing certain things and will still do them anyway even if he is told. Teddy jumps up and bites clothes, sometimes gripping and holding on. This is not accompanied by aggression but it can hurt and has resulted in multiple items of clothing being ripped. He will also bite, again not in an aggressive way but it does hurt, because of this he would best be suited in a home with no young children. He pulls very strongly on a lead which is difficult for me to manage because of my disabilities however he walks considerably better using a halti. His recall is poor, he cannot currently be trusted off lead around distractions, particularly other dogs. However he absolutely loves running around, so a home with a big garden would be ideal. He loves playing with other similar energy dogs but struggles to respect boundaries. Our family dog visits regularly and Teddy will continue to pester him even when he growls to ask for space. I feel he would be better suited to a home as the only dog or one with a similar personality. I have two cats, one who has recently had a leg amputation. Unfortunately Teddy has started persistently chasing them both and I need to prioritise their safety. He therefore needs a home without cats or any small animal he may chase. Teddy can be wary around new people, especially men, and finds busy environments difficult. He will jump up and bark at other people and dogs, and reacts to many moving things. He also needs encouragement walking past certain things sometimes like bins or large objects. Teddy will bark when left but does eventually settle, but he has also been known to destroy things in the house when left unsupervised. He needs a carefully managed environment and further work on being comfortable alone. Anything he can get hold of may be chewed so the home will need to be carefully dog proofed. He also loves digging holes in the garden and will come back in the house a different colour if he’s not been supervised. He can whine during car journeys and attempts to move towards the front of the car despite wearing a seatbelt. He will also howl the whole car down when you stop if he thinks you’ve reached the destination. I believe Teddy would benefit from an experienced, patient owner who understands energetic adolescent dogs and is committed to ongoing reward-based training. A home with a secure, private garden would be ideal, as he currently lives in a flat. He needs an environment where he can be safely exercised, mentally stimulated and taught to settle. He would be best suited to a home without cats, small animals or young children, and preferably as the only dog. Teddy absolutely loves water and will jump in at any chance he can get, and he absolutely loved the beach when we took him there too. I originally got Teddy hoping to have a companion and potentially train him as an assistance dog. Unfortunately, his current behavioural needs have made this much more difficult than I anticipated. This decision has not been made lightly. I have tried for months, but I recognise that loving him isn’t enough on its own if I cannot give him everything he needs. I want to find him a home where his needs are understood and where he has the best chance of thriving. Please only enquire if you genuinely understand the commitment involved. I will be happy to answer questions honestly and discuss his behaviours in more detail. Finding the right home for Teddy is my priority. Rehoming fee applies.
