Description

We’ve had to make the heartbreaking decision of rehoming our dream puppy Cooper. Cooper is an extremely gentle, loving, playful KC registered 8 month old white golden retriever. We have sadly noticed he has developed some anxiety living with a toddler and we feel it is impacting his wellbeing. Although he has never shown any signs of aggression, we feel he is not the happiest he could be. He is amazing and gentle with children but we won’t be rehoming him to anyone with children under 6 as I don’t think he enjoys the chaos and noise that comes with small children in the same house. Cooper is toilet trained, knows basic commands (sit, wait, down, out, bed, paw, high five, “up up” for getting in the car, leave it, come etc” and has a good recall although still in his adolescent phase so that can sometimes mean he forgets but I honestly couldn’t fault his nature he has the most beautiful temperament. He was crate trained until six months however he enjoys much more sleeping at the bottom of the bed or on his bed next to the bed/on the sofa. He loves people! He’s well socialised and great out and about and in the car. We put a lot of time into him as a puppy taking him to cafes, pubs, beaches, parks, city centre and towns etc and on busses and trains/cars so he is great in lots of environments and settles easily. He hasn’t had a lot of exposure to cats. We believe if he had a fur brother or sister or he was an only dog with no small children he would be the happiest as company is his favourite thing. He is used to being left for 4-5 hours max after a good walk and play but not every day. Has also had in home dog sitters before when we’ve gone away and he was absolutely fine in that situation. He is one of a kind and it’s breaking my heart to even come to this decision but breaking in other way to see him so anxious in his own home. He will come with everything he needs including his “pure pet food” to last a couple of weeks which has been the only food his tummy has agreed to and we would want him to continue to have that. It’s currently around £60 month. As he’s still only young the areas that do need paying attention to is counter surfing for snacks, his recall in busy dog areas and not jumping up with all the love in the world when somebody comes through the front door. All very minor puppy behaviour but wanted to make it known where his training is needed going forward. Please note I will only be replying to people whose criteria matches the things mentioned above. I really want him to go to a home where their a dog is a huge part of their life and he won’t be left alone a lot or in a house with young children.
