Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies for sale

5 Neapolitan Mastiff Puppies for sale

The Neapolitan Mastiff, also known as Mastino Napoletano, is one of the oldest breeds of all and originated in Italy. Although their appearance may be a little imposing and they make impressive guard dogs, they are known for their friendly and affectionate nature. They are very large and heavy dogs and have an enormous amount of loose skin around their face and neck, which combined with their ultra-dry lips gives the Neapolitan an overall forbidding appearance.

FAQs

Is a Neapolitan Mastiff a good family dog?

Neapolitan Mastiffs can make good family dogs, especially for families with older children, as their large size and clumsiness may not suit younger kids. They are affectionate, loyal, and protective, often described as gentle giants when properly socialised and trained. However, they require an experienced owner who can provide firm, consistent leadership due to their stubborn nature.

Is a Cane Corso the same breed as a Neapolitan Mastiff?

No, the Cane Corso and Neapolitan Mastiff are distinct breeds. Both belong to the working group and share protective instincts, but the Cane Corso is generally more active and better suited for active families or working roles. The Neapolitan Mastiff tends to be more of a companion dog, with differences in temperament, lifespan, and health considerations.

Are Neapolitan Mastiffs expensive dogs?

Yes, Neapolitan Mastiffs are typically considered a high-cost breed due to their rarity, specialised breeding requirements, and higher care expenses. Prices can vary depending on breeder reputation and location, but they usually cost more than many common dog breeds.

What two breeds make a Neapolitan Mastiff?

The Neapolitan Mastiff is not a crossbreed of two different breeds but an ancient breed developed through selective breeding of large guard dogs, particularly descended from the Molossian dogs of Italy.
