They have always been prized for their working style, which differs from that of a Border Collie in that they do not keep their eye directly on the flock, but work the sheep with a "loose eye". Today, these charming, active dogs are also popular as companion and family dogs thanks to their good looks, intelligence and loyal, affectionate nature.
