The Blue Gascon, or Grand Bleu de Gascogne, is a large French scenthound known for its slate blue mottled coat with black patches and tan markings, typically standing 65-72 cm tall and weighing 80-120 lbs. It is used for hunting large game like boar and deer and has a calm, noble temperament. In contrast, the Bluetick Coonhound is an American breed developed from French hounds like the Grand Bleu de Gascogne, generally smaller at 21-27 inches tall and 45-80 lbs. It features a blueticked coat with black and tan markings and is bred for tracking raccoons and other smaller game, with a more energetic and affectionate nature.
