While a single budgie can become very tame and bond closely with its owner, budgies are social birds and generally thrive with a companion. Having two budgies keeps them happy and stimulated, but they may bond more with each other than with humans, and maintaining two requires a larger cage, more space, and higher care costs.

Budgies usually live between 5 to 10 years, though with proper care and a healthy environment, some can live up to 15 years.

There isn't a single best breed of budgie; common pet budgies available at pet stores are well-suited for companionship. It's more important to select a budgie that is healthy, active, and tame rather than focusing solely on specific colours or mutations, which are often more expensive and found mainly through breeders.
