Description

Looking for an experienced turtle keeper to adopt my much-loved red belly cooters, hatched just over a year ago from a specialist breeder in Epsom. Likely male due to incubation temp (26°C), but still too young to confirm. Both turtles are healthy, active, and have a great appetite. However, the smaller one has some persistent shell discoloration—non-serious, but unresolved despite good care. I’ve consulted forums and keepers but don’t have access to a aquatic reptile vet, so I’d love them to go to someone who can help monitor or treat this. They are hand-tame and docile—I have only ever been nipped very rarely by getting in between them and food (even then, it didnt hurt). They enjoy being out of the tank briefly but will let you know when it’s time to go back. Diet: Frozen bloodworms (favourite), daphnia, brine shrimp, mealworms, Zoomed, Hikari, and King British pellets, koi wheatgerm, spring greens, romaine, and cuttlefish bone. Leftover food will be included. Setup includes: - 180L Juwel Rio tank - Reptology turtle topper - Exo Terra lamp stand & 125W Solar Glo all in one mercury bulb (last replaced mid-June) - Seaoura full spectrum light strip - Faux wall-mounted plant panels - Solid wood stand (optional) - Jebao 404 external filter + optional Juwel Bio 2.0 (DIY pump fix) - Activated carbon (half jar), Turtle+ water conditioner (unopened) - Spare cuttlefish bone - Aoyar auto feeder - wave maker - heater - driftwood/rock/plant decor - Hidom dual aerator (hd 604) Tank uses children's play sand—safe and compaction-free. Hard plastic plants have been fine so far, but I monitor their interactions closely. These turtles mean a lot to me, and I want them to go to someone who will give them the care they deserve, especially regarding shell health and shedding.
