Description

DAPHNE IS IN THE CARE OF LURCHER LINK RESCUE Daphne is a young female lurcher (born Jan 2024). She is 24” to the shoulder and weighs 25kg. She has settled down well in her foster home in Falkirk, Scotland Daphne loves other dogs and gets on well with the 3 other dogs in the foster home. She absolutely loves playing with them but is boisterous, and plays roughly and often noisily. She has been slowly learning some manners around the other dogs and will respect the one dog who doesn’t want to play. Daphne is excellent at meeting other dogs outside of the house. Daphne’s ideal home would be one where there is at least one other confident dog who would enjoy plenty of boisterous play. Daphne loves all people and loves a cuddle; she’s very friendly . She gets very excited and will jump up at people (and lick them!); her foster carers are working on teaching her to keep all 4 paws on the floor instead. She’s very bouncy and can still sometimes be a bit mouthy, so would not be suitable to live with young children. Daphne currently pulls on the lead and is quite strong; her fosterers are working on improving her lead walking. Daphne needs a good off-lead run everyday in an enclosed secure field or large garden. She will need a secure garden with 6-foot fences. Daphne is very eager to please and quick to learn, and is very food motivated. Daphne has been to a 1-2-1 flyball session, and she absolutely excelled - the trainer was so impressed with her and how quickly she picked it up. She really enjoyed it and was so tired afterwards. An activity like flyball, scent work or agility where Daphne can use her brain and could channel her energy would suit her. Daphne also enjoys puzzle and search games in the garden. Daphne is toilet trained and travels well in the car. Daphne sleeps right through the night. Daphne does not like being left home alone for too long. She has been left successfully for a maximum of 1 hour in the company of other dogs. This is something that can be worked on, and the time spent left home alone should be able to be built up once she has fully settled into a new home (this cannot be rushed). Ideally a home with at least one other confident dog would be best, to provide her with support and company when left home alone. Daphne can be possessive over food and toys; she will growl at the other dogs and try to steal all the toys. Therefore her fosterers have been carefully supervising any playtimes with toys and she is being fed separately from the other dogs. The fosterers think that Daphne resource guards due to insecurities and lack of confidence. She has not lived with other dogs before but has made some progress in her foster home - with sensible guidance it’s likely she will continue to slowly improve. Daphne cannot be rehomed around sheep (due to an unfortunate incident with her previous owner), and must be kept on-lead when walked in areas with livestock. Daphne’s ideal forever home is one where there is at least one other confident dog to help her with her separation anxiety and has similar energy levels and would enjoy lots of playtime; but who is also tolerant of her resource guarding. Alternatively she could be rehomed as an only dog (so the resource guarding wouldn’t be an issue), but she’d need a lot more exercise and mental stimulation and the separation anxiety would be more challenging to improve. Daphne is in a FOSTER HOME in FALKIRK, SCOTLAND. DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE THOUSANDS DIE; SAVE A LIFE - ADOPT
