Please read the following for hamster care information;
Hamsters need space to thrive and plenty of enrichment. Their cages need to be very big, please have a good sized cage for the little critters. They are supposed to be in something much bigger than the cage I had 20 years ago as a child for my childhood hamsters! 🐹
RSPCA guidelines currently recommend 1 metre minimum by 50cm depth and height. 100cm x 50cm by 50cm. Their bedding needs to be deep so they can burrow. The safest bedding is aspen and mix it with teabag bedding which is your cheapest option. Pack it down so it can hold burrows, put plenty of bedding in. Add enrichment like “pick and fly” sprays and millet sprays on top.
Add a nice big wheel 28cm diameter. Syrian hamsters need to be living on their own ideally after 6-8weeks. They are solitary creatures and once an adult they have to have their own cage/enclosure.
I have added some example of cages to the end of the photo gallery as they are 100x50cm which is what is recommended minimum size enclosure for a Syrian hamster. Thanks, Anna.
