Description
Unfortunately, due to a developing allergy, I have to get rid of my mealworms. It is a healthy, breeding colony. Live larvae, beetles, and pupae. Most of the colony is currently in the pupa stage because it's still relatively new, the colony was started in late march/early April before I knew I was allergic to them. They're currently on oats and coarse bran as a substrate, and have been fed mostly bell peppers every 3 days or so. Perfect for feeding reptiles, birds, fish, etc. Remember to freeze them for 24 hours to cull before feeding to wild birds, as they are invasive and prolific breeders!
Included:
- Shelf of drawers/mealworm tower. All drawers have air holes drilled for circulation on the right side. Top drawer (for adult beetles) has the bottom partially removed and replaced with wire mesh to allow self sorting of the larvae. The mesh is 5mm x 5mm, and I've noticed it's slightly too wide, it's functional but awkward, and may need replacing.
- 4x plastic bug containers, used for pupae to keep humid until they hatch. For now, the pupae are in the adult drawer because my allergies act up with them in the containers. One container came with a crack along the bottom, but it isn't something pupae or beetles would be able to escape from.
- Live larvae (mealworms), pupae, and adults (darkling beetles).
- 1/2 bag coarse bran (larvae substrate), 1/2 bag organic oats (adult substrate). Both uncovered, so please bake or freeze before giving to the bugs!
Bought supplies and set up the tower from scratch for £60-£75, absolutely devastated at this sale, but it would make an amazing gift for someone who feeds wild birds, loves bugs (like myself), or has pets that eat mealworms. Pickup only please! Thank you for reading :)
