U.K. FOSTERED 2nd Chance Adoptions
PLEASE SHARE HER APPEAL.
Serena has both a European showcase & bio &
A U.K. one. Please ask if youâd like to learn more. âEU Bioâ sounds lighthearted though what it actually describes is her miserable existence as a neglected & abused mamma dog of a country that hates them. Despite her misfortune at being born into this environment she starved to keep her children alive & crawled virtually on her belly to receive love. Fast forward to her salvation (a home in the U.K.) & what we hoped was her âhappy ever afterâ. However through no fault of hers this wasnât meant to be & we made the decision to put her in foster almost immediately. I can & will with any â2nd chance adoptionsâ validate the âreasonsâ for it to any serious enquirers . Serena was fostered in Bulgaria & is again in the U.K. & in both cases no one can describe her more accurately & eloquently than the person who is her day to day companion.
Without further ado- in the words of âSerenaâsâ fosterer, (please note Serenaâs first introâ to the U.K. & cats put a great deal of stress upon her so while she was used to them in BG- a peaceful cat free home is now what she needs):-
âA day in the life of serenaâ
đŹđ§đŹđ§đŹđ§
âSerena greets me each morning with a happy wiggle dance, excited to start her day! She waits patiently outside the bathroom while I get ready. She's calm while I put her harness and collar on and we head out for a 45 minute walk around some local fields, full of lots of good sniffs! Serena loves to follow a scent. She walks beautifully on lead and is a pleasure to walk. Occasionally we will spot a cat, which causes her some stress and she can become fixated. She is gradually learning to be redirected with treats, but it will take some time before she is relaxed enough to walk past a cat calmly.
After a lovely walk, she tucks into her breakfast before I leave her home alone for 2-3 hours, during which she settles on the sofa for a snooze.
While I work from home, Serena either keeps me company in the office, sitting quietly near me, or relaxes by herself downstairs. She's very quiet in the house and enjoys watching out the window to see what the neighbours are up to. She enjoys popping out to the garden throughout the day, and she's starting to enjoy a bit of play time! She hops around like a kangaroo when she's excited and has started to enjoy playing with toys.
After work, we take another 45 minute walk, greeting the neighbourhood dogs nicely and enjoying more sniffs. Returning home for some tasty dinner, Serena either relaxes in her bed for the evening or joins me on the sofa for a cuddle. She is quiet and settled downstairs overnight, resting up for another big day
Serena is shy at first but soon comes around and enjoys affection and cuddles.
She is such a joy to have around, a really gentle and sweet girl. I think she would enjoy some canine company from another calm dog but would be fine as the only dog as long as she got the love and attention she deserves from the humans of the house. She is great with other dogs and greets nicely, though will stand up for herself if another dog is reactive to her. She has only been in foster with me for 10 days and is already coming out of her shell and growing in confidence every day. In a house full of love, she will absolutely flourish. If I could keep her myself, I would!â

A general note on rehoming from the welfare.
A person who understands dog language will be able to assess the facts for themselves. If you are an owner that sees âissuesâ where there is normal dog behaviour, high pray drive for example when any average dog might hunt a squirrel & problems we caused or that came with them as a reason to rehome then we are abandoning the promises that we made to all concerned.
We sometimes fail to understand that dogs are subject to their environment & owners like a child is their parents. In virtually all cases with rare exceptions owners are not able to handle the normal dog behaviours brought about by what they as adopters did or didnât do. To verify this dogs once placed in a new context are none of the things described by the previous owner. Same dog - different home.
I have written a document to this end which can be found on my rescue page under âfilesâ or requested.
