Description
Every yard needs a ‘Barney’!! You know the type you can throw anyone on of any ability to do anything and know he’s consistently reliable? Yes, that’s our Barney! For that reason alone , he’s without a shadow of a doubt a favourite!
Barney stands at 16.2hh, 8yo, ROR eligible gelding.
Will we see him jumping around badminton one day? Ummm no I’d highly doubt that!! However, will he take you on funrides and pop everything you ask, take you for a gallop along the sea front, hack for our on end alone or in company, canter around the 70cm, go to the riding club, teach a novice in the arena ….. YES! Yes he absolutely will!
Hacks out like a trekking centre horse!! Buckle end plod along, not the spooky type , not hot or silly. Equally, bold and switched on enough to go upfront and take the lead. He is currently nannying all my breakers out hacking. Bold in the heaviest of traffic, come and see for yourself and watch him go up the 60mph road, I’ll let him do the talking!
No valegro in the arena but I real sweet and straightforward leg in each corner type with attractive paces and the comfiest of canters. Always in a snaffle. As quiet as Barney is, he is not dull, he would be a lovely project for someone wanting more out of him. Could certainly see him doing a nice dressage test or ROR class with further production!
Regularly take him out to ride around and check the fields with the Lurcher in tow , popping our heads through the kitchen window to see if there’s any snacks around for us! It’s safe to say I’ve grown a soft spot for him!
He was nothing but sane in the open XC fields with a teen on. Jumped absolutely everything first time. Was happy to stand while the other horse cantered away, equally happy to leave the other horse. Just so easy and kind while being capable at the same time
Sounds like the perfect boy? He is! Although every horse has their quirk! Barneys is he knows if you haven’t got the chiffney on loading so he may like to have a little chuckle to himself and put himself back in , shows he has a brain in there! However chiffney on and tell him this is actually not funny and you’re serious , on he goes! Travels perfectly too.
Good to catch, fine for farrier , live in or out. You won’t find an easier one
No lumps or bumps / vices
As much of a quiet legend as he is , I don’t like saying any horse is suitable for a total beginner as without the right support , it could be unsuitable with any horse! However he very much will take a novice and has done so with us!
Open to viewing or vetting
That’s enough of me rambling , come and let him doing the talking! He will sell himself that’s for sure
