Description
DORA is 4 years old and small in size (9.5kg). She is looking for a foster or adopt home asap. She could live with calmer older children, would benefit from another dog, and has been fine with cats. However, she'll really need a calm home with someone around most of the time.
Dora is looking for a new home as she is becoming increasingly anxious living with a toddler and newborn baby. She is loving towards them, but perhaps feels a weight of responsibility to help care for them too. Therefore, we feel she’d be much happier in a home where she felt free from such responsibilities.
Dora is very loving and playful with those she trusts. Her protectiveness towards her younger family members has seen her be a bit shouty at those entering her house (not aggression, more of an alert). She can also be a little wary of men (particularly older men). However, once she knows that someone means her no harm, and she is comforted by her people, she will calm down.
When out and about in a public area, she is fine around strangers and just enjoys being out. She is also comfortable in public spaces, like cafes, for example.
On a walk she is mostly good on the lead, but will pull when excited or nervous. She sometimes likes to bark at other dogs when they pass her, but this seems more from excitement than aggression.
Her recall is pretty good. She’s very food orientated and so this helps with her training, but struggles to retain new learned things and so she needs a patient guardian who doesn’t mind repeating the same training over days and/or weeks.
Dora currently lives with a 7 year old dog whom she looks to for guidance and comfort. She can show a little bit of possessiveness towards her food, but is also fairly submissive. Therefore, we’d like her to have another dog in her new home, if possible.
It might take her a little bit of adjustment to make a new doggy friend; she just needs to learn to trust they won’t harm her. She has also spent time with two cats on occasion, which she has been comfortable with.
She sleeps next to her bed at night and prefers not to be alone. However, she can be left alone for up to 5 hours. It would be best to close curtains when leaving her alone as she will bark at people passing the window. She may also bark when you first come into the house on your return.
Dora has been fine with fireworks, and fine in the car. She is not a fan of the crate, however, nor kennels.
Dora is a gentle and sweet dog who is emotionally sensitive. She will need a really caring guardian or guardians who will show her love, consistency and confidence.
