Description

Boris fostered Norwich Norfolk Boris is a medium sized crossbreed aged around six years old. We were asked to help Boris recently as he had a place booked on a van back to Romania, even though he’s done nothing wrong here. Boris has been let down a lot by humans and please read his story carefully as we must all ensure that he isn’t let down again. He originally came from the Ukraine, when his family had to flee the war he was taken to a rescue shelter. The shelter was bombed and only sixteen dogs survived, they were moved to a shelter in Romania. He was brought over in September last year (not by safe rescue!)and placed in an unsuitable home that already had more animals than their housing association allowed. Of course the inevitable happened and Boris had to go. He was then sent to a fosterer who was also already in possession of more dogs than allowed. Boris again had to move and the only solution that was found was to return him to the Romanian shelter. His ticket was all booked and paid for when we were contacted five days before he was due to be deported. Despite all this turmoil Boris is now in a safe rescue foster home and being just a true gent. He is such a a happy and friendly boy. He mixes well with cats and dogs but could also be the only dog in the home. He walks really nicely on a lead and we are told that he’s well behaved off lead too. We were also advised that he is wary of children so a home with no full time inhabitants under the age of fifteen would be best. When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure. If you are interested please message or call between 9am to 5pm Mon - Fri 9am to 4pm Sat on Tel 07788251197 or Tel 07899844524.
