Description
Phormictopus atrichomatus / Red Island Birdeater – Adult Female
This is Ember, my adult female Phormictopus atrichomatus (Red Island Birdeater).
She is a large, impressive New World species with a striking velvety black appearance and a subtle red sheen under the right lighting.
The age is approximate, however she is around 6 years old. She has been confirmed female by molt by her previous owner for whom I have no reason to disbelieve (and who I have bought from before), however another indication is of course her age.
She feeds extremely well and has been kept in ideal conditions her entire life with myself and her (only other) previous owner. She is healthy, active, and displays typical Phormictopus behaviours.
Temperament
As is common for the species, Ember can be defensive and food-aggressive, so she is suited to keepers with at least moderate experience. She is fast when she wants to be and prefers to stand her ground, but this is only when disturbing her directly other than taking her water dish out, and she generally retreat soon after this.
The image of her with fangs out is not an example of temperament. It was taken after me rehousing her, and her testing her new boundaries. She has never done it since. I just thought this would make an interesting image to display.

I am making space for a true ‘giant’ species (Theraphosa, Pamphobeteus, Xenesthis, etc.), so Ember is being made available to a good home.

Postage & Payment Disclaimer
Postage is available at £11 per parcel with RMSD before 1pm the next day with live arrival guarantee (LAG).
I cannot be held responsible for any postal delays, however please contact me if there is, as I will be the only one able to open an investigation with Royal Mail.
The tarantulas will be packed well with a 24hr + heat pack if the weather requires it, so if a delay happens the T should be fine.
In the unlikely event of DOA, the buyer must contact me within 2 hours of receiving the parcel and provide pictures of the spider with a pin through its abdomen, and I will refund you for the price of the spider, however I do strongly urge you to select business / goods and services when purchasing as this will cover all avenues and provide peace of mind.
Postage charges are non-refundable. If the above procedure is not followed, LAG (live arrival guarantee) is void and no refund will be given.
During the cold months I reserve the right to delay postage if the temperatures drop to an unsafe level. That will be communicated prior to any payment being made.
I understand that we want to receive them as soon as possible, but their welfare is top priority.
PayPal is the only accepted method of payment. If the buyer opts for the business / goods & services option on PayPal, then please include the fees when making the payment.
