Description
Freddy is a 6 year old beagle, KC registered, neutered, up to date with vaccines and flea/worming, and is microchipped.
He needs a home where he will get to spend time with you, and not be left alone for long hours.
I’ve had Fred since he was 8 weeks old, and he’s always been a friendly, loving, silly cuddle bug. He’s amazing with kids, handles anything and still wags and gives kisses. But we recently had a baby who required a major surgery so we frequently have long stays in hospital, meaning Freddy has been alone for a long time or bounced between sitters. He’s spent time with family and paid sitters, but with our situation not changing any time soon (expected the next few years), we can’t keep him like this.
Freddy doesn’t like to be left alone for long periods of time- he’s adaptive and likes routine, so short periods or regular patterns he can usually manage. But he needs a consistent and reliable home. Right now he’s spending his days depressed and anxious, licking and chewing his paws til they’re sore. He gets anxious in a crate and has hurt himself on the metal before, so we’d advise not to put him through it, or go very slow introducing him to one.
He is good with other dogs, has never been aggressive, but can sometimes bark on walks when he’s excited. He pulls on the lead if he’s not regularly walked, because he’s so excited- but settles to a steady waddle after 10 mins or so.
He barks and chases cats, but has never met one properly, so I’d guess he doesn’t like them. He was raised with a house rabbit as a pup and would sniff but that’s it. He’s a beagle, so the nose gets him into trouble for raiding bins or chasing squirrels (his recall isn’t great when the nose is in control).
