Description
We are unfortunately in the heartbreaking position that we cannot keep skye any longer due to personal circumstances and my work situation. This has been a very difficult decision, but we believe she will thrive in a home where she can play and have fun.
She is an especially great dog for someone with an active lifestyle, but can be relaxed in the home as long as she has had exercise. (She loves to sleep at my feet while I work at my computer)
Skye - 8 Month Old Sheprador (German Shepherd x Labrador)
About Skye:
Breed: German Shepherd x Labrador
Age: 8 months
Sex: Female (not yet spayed)
Microchipped & vaccinated
Health: Excellent, no known issues.
Training: Knows Sit, Stay, Lie Down,
Paw/Other Paw, Leave It, Drop, Here (recall),
Look at Me, Up, Jump, Side, Touch, Middle, Mat, Stop & Go.
Can get over excited on walks, so needs an experienced dog owner to reel her in. (I have been working with her using a tennis ball to build engagement and this has been working brilliantly)
House training: Toilet Trained.
Personality & Needs:
Very intelligent, high-energy, and thrives with mental as well as physical stimulation.
Enjoys ball games, food puzzles, snuffle mats, and scent work.
Bonds strongly to her people and struggles with being left alone -- will need ongoing separation training.
With her intelligence and eagerness to please she is highly trainable. She is more toy-focused than food-focused when it comes to rewards, and is keen to learn new things and work with you. We had originally planned to train her as an assistance dog to support with our disabled child.
Still young and excitable -- will jump up and mouth when overexcited, but is adapting well to training in this area.
Home Needed:
Plenty of daily exercise (secure field or long walks) and mental enrichment.
Someone home most of the day or able to build up time left gradually.
Secure, dog-proof garden.
She is great with children, but can occasionally be overly friendly and excitable, and so might frighten a child who's already afraid of dogs.
Great with other dogs, loves playing!
She has lived with cats but will chase when excited. She can be relaxed with them is she is calm and has had exercise.
Why We're Rehoming:
Skye is a wonderful dog, we have put a lot of work into her, but she will be happiest in a home that can give her more attention and time than we can. She has previously worked very well with a trainer at Canine Ability dog training, and loves going to Wild River dog park in ballynahinch. She is very social able and well behaved with other dogs.
I love this dog dearly, but we cannot give her the love, care and exercise she deserves. I wish we could keep her, as she has been a great companion to us - but due to our circumstances we cannot spend as much time as she needs, and she ends up bored sitting in the house all day sometimes.
We're happy to bring her to your house to meet her before you decide.
