Description
Teddy – 5-year-old Cockerpoo looking for his forever home
Teddy is a bright, energetic 5-year-old Cockerpoo who has been with us since he was a tiny puppy. He is a happy, affectionate boy who thrives on attention, loves to play, and has a big personality packed into a medium-sized frame. He is crate-trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and in excellent health.
Personality & temperament
Teddy is a classic high-energy Cockerpoo. He is lively, curious, and always ready for fun. He adores other dogs and is generally excellent with them – sociable, playful, and confident in canine company.
With people he can be more selective. He is quite reactive: he tends to bark every time the door is knocked and will bark at people he doesn’t know. Once he gets to know and trust someone he is loving and seeks affection, while also valuing his own space when he wants it. He is not aggressive, but he does need time and careful introductions with new people.
He is house-trained and crate-trained and settles well in his crate when needed. He enjoys attention and interaction but is also capable of entertaining himself and having quiet time.
History
Teddy had a broken leg at around one year old that required surgery. He made a full recovery and has no ongoing issues from the injury. He has been a healthy, active dog ever since.
Food & resource guarding – the main reason for rehoming
Teddy has a significant issue with food and resource guarding. He will steal food (human food or anything he finds interesting) and take it to his bed or crate. When someone approaches him to remove it, he growls. He has never bitten, but the growling is consistent and concerning. This is the primary reason we have made the very difficult decision to rehome him. He needs an experienced owner who understands resource guarding and is prepared to manage it carefully, ideally with professional behavioural support.
He currently eats mainly dry food and tends to graze rather than having strict set mealtimes. Any new home will need to manage feeding carefully (separate feeding areas, no free access to human food, consistent routines, and ongoing training around resources).
Ideal home
Teddy would suit an experienced dog owner or household that:
• Understands and is prepared to work with resource/food guarding
• Can manage a dog who barks at the door and at unfamiliar people
• Can provide plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation for a high-energy Cockerpoo
• Is patient with a dog who can be selective/reactive with people
• Already has or is open to other well-socialised dogs (he is great with them)
• Can offer a calm, consistent environment with clear boundaries
He is not recommended for first-time owners or homes with very young children where food or high-value items cannot be carefully managed. He needs someone who will continue positive training, manage his environment around food and visitors, and give him the structure and outlets he needs.
Teddy is a lovely, happy boy who deserves a home that can meet his needs properly. We have loved him since he was a puppy and are only rehoming him because we cannot safely manage the food-guarding behaviour long-term. He will come with his crate, current food, and full history.
If you have the experience, time, and commitment to give Teddy the right home, please get in touch for more details and to arrange a meeting. Serious, experienced enquiries only please.
