Description

Loki is a 6 year old neutered male. He will not be going to just anyone. If you want to give this lovely boy a home you need to have experience with troubled dogs and ideally staffies too. I will want to see proof of your capability to give him the proper care that he needs and your experience with dogs. For the right home, the price will be reduced. The price is set at £500 to deter pet collectors and people who won't take his care seriously. I got Loki as a pup and trained and raised him until he was about 1 and a half. He still has that strong foundation from when he was a pup, but unfortunately due to a relationship breakup, he ended up with my ex partner who I mistakenly believed would take good care of him. Loki was severely neglected and abused for three years. We had to force entry into a flat where he was being left locked inside with no food, water, company or toilets for 4+ days at a time. Beyond that I am aware that he was treated very aggressively and may have experienced physical abused too. The rescue happened in November 2024. So I have had him back for almost a year now. I am not experienced with rehabilitating abused dogs and despite my best efforts I have come to the conclusion that he needs more than what I can offer. I cannot afford professional rehabilitation for him either. Writing this advert I am an absolute mess right now because I have never given up on an animal and this was the last thing I wanted for Loki after he's already had to change homes twice. But I have to do what's best for him. That is also why I will need to know that the home he is going to will be his forever home. I will now list both his incredible strong points and the things he struggles with as a result of this abuse. STRUGGLES - Some house training issues due to being locked inside for such long periods. Needs frequent walks and toilets. - Separation anxiety - Very hyperactive at times - Can pull on the lead but he is getting much better with this - Not friendly with all dogs, so it is best to keep introductions to a minimum - Very strong and so can overwhelm children and the elderly - Most importantly, he has shown spontaneous aggression in the past. This is not a behaviour he exhibited as a pup, so I believe that he reacts to triggers which remind him of his abuse and make him feel threatened. This is a very rare occurrence but due to his size it is very important that you are prepared to deal with these situations safely as it can seem to come out of the blue. Also it is important that you do not exhibit any behaviours that make him feel threatened unintentionally. STRONG POINTS - Great with cats as he grew up with them - Not protective over food or toys (no guarding behaviours) - Loves car journeys - Very friendly with people - Friendly with dogs when they are carefully introduced - Very loving and trusting, despite all he's been through - Very quick learner and loves learning - Knows all basic commands: sit, lay, paw, wait, drop and even some dance moves that we were practising. I think he would really enjoy some agility training. - He is very physically healthy. Hasn't had any health issues in his lifetime. For all of the reasons listed above, I would like him to go to a home that meets the following conditions: - Very experienced trainer and financially prepared to get professional rehabilitation if need be. - Ideally experienced with the breed. - Committed to being Loki's forever home. - No children or other dogs in the home. No plans to have children in the near future. - Passionate dog lover. No history of abusive/neglectful care of animals.
