Description

I bought Pico on 8 October 2025. The previous owners were unsure of her age but estimated between 6 to 18 months. ______________________________________________________________________ She was bought as a birthday gift for my dad but sadly he rejected the gift and refused to even let me bring her into his home. ______________________________________________________________________ She has been living with me since in less than ideal circumstances. I am registered disabled, and to cut a long story short, I barely manage to get out of bed most days due to health issues, and I am allergic to her feathers. I get hives after handling her and since I'm the only one home during most of the day, her cage is in my bedroom. My husband works 14 hour shifts, my kids have clubs after school or out with their friends so if I dont give her time, no one else can. ______________________________________________________________________ The cage door is left open nearly all of the time and she roams freely, going in and out as she pleases. If I do need her in the cage, she will obey the command to go in, though sometimes I have to use the target stick to guide her if she is being stubborn. ______________________________________________________________________ When we got her, she was untrusting of all people, skittish and loud. My son and I have been working towards taming her. We worked on target training, clicker training, hand feeding and basic commands. She is still reluctant and nervous to step up or be petted but she does now take treats from the hand very gently. With continued training and a committed owner she will progress beautifully. When I bought her, she originally came with a cage, a few toys, a clicker and a few days of food. I have since spent a further £200 on enrichment toys/activities, perches, ladders, a large covered bath, bed, Cuttlefish, chew and destroy toys (she loves them). She hasn't chewed or destroyed anything in my home, just the things I bought specifically for this purpose. ______________________________________________________________________ I spent the extra money to ensure she has plenty to keep her occupied because I didn't want her to be lonely. As I mentioned, most days I haven't been able to get out of bed due to my health and although she's been in the same room as me, and I have done some training and activities with her, I didn't want her to get bored or start picking out her feathers due to boredom or stress and so far it has worked. ______________________________________________________________________ She enjoys, monkey nuts, peanuts, walnuts, pine nuts, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots. I give her parakeet mix seeds, pellets and fresh veg for her main diet. Recently she has her seeds and veg, but I hand feed the pellets as part of the target stick training. Monkey nuts are her absolute favourite but it's not good for her to have more than 2 a day, so I only use them as a training reward. Pine nuts are also a favourite and again used in training. ______________________________________________________________________ I am selling her because my allergies have worsened and I'm having to use 2 tyoes of antihistamines and eye drops multiple times a day just to get by. She was never meant to be mine, she was a gift for dad who has had birds for years in the past. I'm not sure why he reacted so badly to what I thought was a thoughtful birthday gift. ______________________________________________________________________ Comes with: A large cage A wheeled cage stand Toys Perches Food and water bowls Enrichment items Target training stick with clicker Cage liners Leash Various nuts, seeds and food pellets Large bag of millet spray Hanging treat sticks Cuttlefish Bird bath Hanging tent bed Chewing blocks ______________________________________________________________________ She comes with everything you will need (apart from fresh veg) to keep a parrot. Enough food, treats and toys to last a while - months! ______________________________________________________________________ I'm fairly settled on the price I want for her, just to break even on what I paid for her and the additional purchases I have made to ensure she is happy. I won't discourage negotiating but I won't entertain ridiculous offers. ______________________________________________________________________ I am sure whoever ends up buying her will love her. ______________________________________________________________________ Collection only. Cage is quite large, but the cage and stand fit in the back of a qashqai if the seats are down. ______________________________________________________________________ Local delivery possible dependent on location and additional charge.
