Description

Petal is a super special Frenchie who will be 3 this year and whom we love very much but, her circumstances as an assistance dog in training have changed in line with our own and we are trying our best to do what is best for her however difficult that is for us. Petals was training as our daughters assistance dog and everything was great until our daughter was unable to access school in late 2023 as her needs deteriorated significantly. This has meant Petal's 'job' stopped and Petal has found it hard to adjust as she's now just at home all the time with us rather than going into school. She's struggled with not having this purpose as she craves activity and become overly attached to our much older Springer Spaniel which has also caused us new challenges such as on walks where Petal is desperate to be with Dora and vocalised loudly unless she is in front. It seems only to be with Dora this happens! Due to the unending appts, full time jobs and complexity of special needs our children have, we feel we are unable to give her the level of stimulation she seems to need and has almost regressed in everything she was trained in as she's not used the skills. She's house trained, amazingly loving and loves humans in all shapes and sizes. She enjoys meeting other dogs but on her terms as she likes to be off her lead to explore. As is her breeds nature she be a bit anxious which we see more in environments she isn't 'in charge' of such as vet visits! Although I work from home and she is with people all the time, with our family situation greatly changed from how it was when she first came home and our daughter no longer in school with Petal with her working and training several times a week, it's just not enough for her ; she needs to be 'doing' and needs more attention as it takes her more activity to tire and calm down. She gets herself into mischief which isnt ger fault it's simply because she needs a setting that can put that time and effort into her and manage her curiosity, exuberance and energy. It's primarily our daughters needs that have impacted Petal as whilst she could have continued acting as an assistance dog, our daughter is not leaving the house and this means Petal is unable to do all the things she thinks she should be, meaning her need for speed goes in to occupying herself and often result in frustration for us as we know its the lack of stimulation. She loves cuddles, she will lay and relax but she has a short attention span and only when she's tired out enough do we see her calmer; this is at odds with her bestie Dora who is reaching and age where Petal is too much for her as she wants to sleep more and more! Having had this little fur ball from a baby we believe Petal would be best as an only pet with love and attention on tap as she can be quite full on as well as demonstrating anxieties ( as she does with Dora and other situations). She adores children and has spent time in school as well. Please only respond to this if you are genuinely able to offer a home you feel is conducive with Petal's needs; lots of walks, somewhere to run, time to spend occupying her with mental stimulation etc....as this is extremely difficult for us and we never imagined being in a situation where our daughter was not in a school (as is the situation we are in) and juggling the needs of our complex family (we have 4 children with additional needs and I have health challenges) We have discussed this at length with our vet as we are not a family who make decisions lightly and feel we have failed by having to consider this as a solution but she has reassured we are doing this for the right reasons. Petal has been spayed, is fully vaccinated until next summer and is micropchipped. She is KC registered for which we have the documents for but we did not transfer these from the original breeder as these were not important to us. Her breeder was extremely thorough as he bred his beloved pet ( her mum) purely to have another of his own so Petal's family line is impressive with champions galore! Petal came to us at a time we needed her most and we have poured our heart and soul into providing her the best home possible so we are now seeking the same from her new home. We will obviously want to meet with any new prospective owners to discuss and see how Petal interacts. She's so loved but we are trying to make the right decisions for her.
