Cyprus, now in Hampshire About Lenny Lenny is currently in a foster home in Hampshire after arriving from Cyprus in June. He’s a beautiful Labrador/Pointer mix and is now around seven months old. Lenny was born in the shelter and had never known life outside of it until recently, so the transition into a home environment has been a big and sometimes overwhelming change for him. That said, he is already making fantastic progress, and his gentle, affectionate nature is starting to shine through. When Lenny first arrived, he was frightened and completely shut down. He didn’t want to be touched, moved stiffly around the house, and was very unsure of his new surroundings. With time, patience, and consistency, he has begun to form a trusting bond with his foster carer. He now actively seeks out attention, enjoys affection, and is happy being handled, which is a huge achievement for a dog who once flinched at every movement. He still startles occasionally, particularly with sudden movements, but he’s already noticeably more relaxed with daily household noises. Lenny is clean in the house and is happy to spend time in his crate, where he often proudly surrounds himself with his collection of toys. He doesn’t sleep in his crate overnight yet, but he finds it a safe space during the day and often chooses to settle there. He’s naturally inquisitive, loves to chase and retrieve a ball, and particularly enjoys activities that allow him to use his nose. He’s a big fan of treat-based games and scent work, especially if chicken is involved, and he’s shown himself to be very trainable when he feels secure and connected to the person working with him. Lenny’s lead training is still a work in progress. His confidence is growing steadily, and with gentle encouragement he’s beginning to show more of his playful and puppyish side. He’s still all legs and a bit uncoordinated, but it’s clear he wants to enjoy life and is trying his hardest to relax, he just needs the right support to help him do so. Lenny has met children in his foster home and responded very calmly. He was gentle and curious, then gave himself some distance to settle and observe from nearby. He’s naturally watchful and likes to take in the world around him before jumping in, so he would be best suited to a calm, patient home environment where there isn’t too much chaos. A resident dog would be a real benefit for Lenny - ideally a friendly, playful and confident dog who can help him continue building trust in the world around him. He can sometimes be a bit fearful around very confident or boisterous dogs, so a pup with a calm demeanour would suit him best. Lenny would thrive in a quiet home with access to a secure garden and someone around frequently. He would struggle in a noisy or highly active environment at this stage, and needs an adopter who is willing to go at his pace as he continues to come out of his shell. He can’t yet manage stairs. Lenny has already come so far, and with continued reassurance and gentle guidance, he will grow into a devoted, playful and trusting companion. He just needs a little time, some stability, and a home where he can feel truly safe.
