I have been breeding these beautiful little cousins to their more well known cousins for a few years and they are increasing in popularity.
Rankins come from Queensland, Australia and need a hot dryer habitat. They are omnivorous, eating vegetation and insects.
Their setup needs both uvb strip lighting and a basking lamp. A single dragon can be kept in a 3x1.5x1.5 foot vivarium though a 4x2x2 foot is preferable. They like to climb so rocks and branches are a must and they like to dig, too. I keep mine on a mix of children's play sand and organic topsoil.
All my babies have been part of our family and are used to being handled daily. They are not given to tantrums (unlike beardies) and very rarely attempt to bite. Being much smaller, even when fully grown, they are unlikely to do any damage even if they do!
When full grown they are around 10 inches in length from nose to tail tip, weighing in at around 100g.
I own both a central beardie and Rankins and can honestly say that these little guys are a joy to have.
