Description

Fern is a Netherland dwarf born January 2022, Bailaora is a mini lop mix born June 2022. They've been together ever since I adopted them, and have never been rehomed before. Rabbits are high maintenance animals in general. You'll need to have plenty of extra funds, and a lot of time. If their litter gets to be too messy, they will begin to mark places outside of where they're supposed to, opening up even more work for you. You'll need to be someone who can stay on top of it. They are mostly litter trained, but Bailaora (at least I think it's Bailaora) tends to mark the space directly next to designated litter areas. You'll need to have the dedication to pay attention to their behavior, so that if any issue arises you won't be overwhelmed. If you do give them a high level of attention, they are very rewarding. They have improved the quality of my life while I've had them. They are entire family members in their own right, and as you continue to have them you will learn to understand each other and your respective patterns. Fern jumps up onto the bed when I call him (Bailaora has less confidence with jumping so high up) they are all sorts of intelligent and all you have to do is pay attention to see it. They like to follow me around the house being adorable, and they can go back to their primary room when I ask them to. If you have some understanding of psychology they will be very nice members of the family. I do not spend much time actually handling them, so they've become unaccustomed to it. When I do, Fern tends to bite my shirt and complain. They may try to get out of being held, but if they are held for a longer time, allowed to calm down, and given head scratches they can settle into it and begin to purr. Bailaora is much better with handling since she was handled daily when she was a baby. They need plenty of space to run around. They'll sometimes get the zoomies just like cats. I usually have them free roaming the entire apartment. Rabbits are one of the most rehomed animals in the UK. I suspect this is because people are not aware of how much of a full time job it is to keep rabbits. Most people expect, based on their appearance, that they'd be like hamsters or gerbils but they need easily 20 times more time and attention than that. I think they take more dedication than having a dog or cat.
