I can live with other dogs Resident dog required? Yes/Preferred Living with cats? I’m looking for a home without cats Where can I live? I’d like a semi-rural home with a garden and an active lifestyle Where am I from? Cyprus, now in South East London About Pika Pika (formerly Patch) is a beautiful six month old pup who was rescued from Cyprus and is now in a foster home in South East London. She is an intelligent, sensitive and funny dog with so much potential, and although she is still finding her feet in the big wide world, she has already made wonderful progress in her foster home. Although Pika’s fosters had really hoped to adopt her, they have recognised that she would be better suited to a quieter home, so we’re hoping we can find her just that! As London is a busy place, there’s very little way to escape bumping into other people when out and about on walks, and because Pika is such an unusual looking dog, people often want to come and say hi. She’s not a huge fan of this unwanted attention, especially when she’s feeling overwhelmed and there’s a lot going on around her, and this build up of anxiety can cause her to become reactive. She’s therefore looking for a calmer place to call home, based semi-rurally with a garden, and we think she may possibly prefer the company of another dog. She absolutely loves other dogs and is a lot more confident meeting strangers if they have a dog with them. Pika’s foster family have been getting to know her quirks and character, and it has become clear just how clever and expressive she is. She is very vocal with her emotions, and her foster family can now tell what her little sounds mean – whether she’s asking to go out, inviting you to play, or letting you know she’s ready for her dinner. Once she bonds with people she is very loyal and will happily curl up for morning cuddles or stretch out nearby while you work. Pika is extremely receptive to training and has already learned a number of commands including sit, down, stay, paw and turn around. She is motivated by high value, smelly treats, especially fish! She also really loves games that engage her brain. Her foster family think she could really enjoy activities like agility once her confidence grows, as she has the focus, enthusiasm and athleticism for it. Pika is also full of playful energy and has a cheeky streak. She loves tug games in the park, morning cuddles, collecting sticks on walks and rolling around for a belly rub. She is particularly in her element when playing with other dogs. She’s generally quite submissive with dogs and loves running about with them. This is why we feel a confident, playful dog in her new home would help her feel more secure and bring out her sociable side even more. At home, Pika is housetrained, happy to settle during the day once she realises it’s rest time, and sleeps well at night. She loves sunbathing outside and is also partial to a bit of digging in the garden! She has a moderate to high energy level, but she is also content to snooze for long stretches once her needs are met. If someone new arrives she will often bark and gets a bit unsettled, but once she’s familiar with someone new she relaxes and is happy to be fussed over. This in mind, she will need an adopter who understands reactivity and can help her build positive experiences at her own pace. Pika is looking for a cat free, child free home in a calmer, more rural location where she can relax away from the constant stimulation of a busy area. A secure garden and another friendly dog would be a huge benefit for her. She will need a patient adopter who can give her the time, structure and reassurance she needs to flourish. In return we know that Pika will offer loyalty, affection, entertainment and the joy of watching a bright, beautiful young dog blossom into her best self.
