Description
We currently need to re-home our 6 year old lurcher, Gertie.
**** Please note she can be reactive to other dogs and is on medication - please stop reading if you have any doubts about this, I don't mean to be rude but it will save us both time! ****
After a relationship breakdown, neither party are able to take Gertie with us who we have had for 6 years, since a puppy.
She is a friendly, healthy, playful dog. She loves people and has so much going for her. She's great indoors, obedient and well-mannered. Her good nature means that everyone who meets her adores her.
_____
Location
We're in East Lothian. We would be willing to re-home within 150 mile radius.
We would require you to visit a couple of times and we would need to see your home.
______
Reactivity:
She has some reactivity to neighbours' dogs, but this is very nuanced and I would explain all the details in a private message.
______
In the home:
Gertie is regularly left for up to 4hrs at a time during the day. Longer, on rare occasions, without any issue.
When on her own, she is restricted to the kitchen, with food, water, sleeping in her crate, with the door open.
She is fully toilet trained, also trained to go to her crate when we eat. She knows all the standard commands like; sit, lie down, stay, wait, paw, go to bed.
She doesn't have much experience of spending time with young children. When she has, her behaviour has been appropriate, but excitable, but as it's so limited, I feel we couldn't confidently guarantee her behaviour in that setting 100%.
She would be fine with teenagers.
She will chase small furry things, so she couldn't live with a cat.
She is walked once in the morning, once in the evening, a run around in the garden at lunchtime.
We sometimes use a harness with a 20 metre lead for the beach so she can get up to full speed.
Her recall is hit and miss. It's fine if there's no distractions.
She eats dry kibble.
She travels very well and for long distances without any issues if her view from the windows is obscured.
She can bark at passing dogs / rabbits / cats. A covered crate is perfect, we usually have her in the boot of our estate car.
She has never been on public transport.
______
Health:
She is spayed
Micro-chipped, flea treatment and wormed regularly.
Recently she has lost some hair on her back legs, our vet seems to think this isn't too unusual - it certainly doesn't bother Gertie.
For the reactivity / anxiety, she is on 40mg Fluoxatine per day.
