Description
Hogna Maderiana spiderlings available. These are endemic to the island of Madiera in Portugal. They grow to around 2.5 inch leg span with adults having gorgeous orange on their legs. Fast moving but easier to manage than something like a huntsman. They are very food orientated and what can be confused with aggression is purely hunting instinct and would much rather flee then bite.
They're a terrestrial species preferring more ground space to explore and hunt. They will tolerate a range of conditions but try to keep at around 20c to 26c and 60/70% humidity with slings benefiting from slightly higher humidity to help with moulting. Try to create a temperature and moisture gradient to they can decide where is more comfortable for themselves.
Spiderlings are currently measuring about 8mm long and taking pinhead crickets. They are impressive hunters and will often take pray bigger than themselves but this isnt advised. They will usually take pray instantly, if they dont its best to remove it and try again a couple days later, never leave crickets with them because if they moult, the cricket can eat the spider while its vulnerable. Give an appropriately sized meal every 3 to 4 days.
Overall a fun species to own and very rewarding to watch grow to adult which doesn't take long. I have had the mother since she was a spiderling and now she has spiderlings of her own š
