Description
Burton is a kooky, sweet, gangly boy, who dreams of being adopted by someone active. He loves nothing more than hiking, running, driving in cars and living life.
He is currently living with 3 other dogs, who he is very patient and kind with after slow intros and a variety of cats (which alter often in a foster home). He takes a few days to get used to them, initially inquistive but then leaves them to their own devices and spends most of his time with a blind disabled cat.
He was originally rescued from Kenya where he was spotted running between cars in Nairobi, unwanted, scared and close to being killed. He has been in the UK for the past 6 months and has settled in well.
He likes attention, but does not crave it. He can be quite aloof, and is happy to go and sit on his own and let the other dogs get all the cuddles, but then will come over and give you a little kiss and then go back to his bed. He is sweet and makes you smile. He is an introvert, but is friendly with everyone and is good around children, tasted above the age of 7. We are looking for someone who accepts him for who he is.
He is good when out and about on the lead, but if can be a bit unpredictable with other dogs. He regularly goes up the Malvern Hills and ignores all other dogs, but then he can pull and get a little reactive with some dogs he takes a dislike to when walking closer to home. This is more likely to happen if he doesn't get enough exercise.
He can be a mass of contradictions, as he used to get picked up in the doggie school bus and taken to day care, where each dog had their own seat. He loved it and was very well behaved, and then spent days with around 50 dogs which changed everyday. But then can bark at dogs near his home and he appears reactive. It is very likely that work with a behaviouralist to understand him better would be massively beneficial and you would have a brilliant dog, we very much realise it might be how we are with him which is holding him back.
If you would like to chat more about Burt, we would love to hear from you. He is great in the house, calm and never chews and is great at being left alone. Is also great in the car and curls up tiny and naps when left in the car when we go to the shops.
If you can complete the form or website www.ra-na.com, we would love to hear from you.
Fully vaccinated, sterilised, chipped etc (everything to get into the UK!)
