Description

Howie is in foster care in Suffolk. He arrived in the UK late November 2025 and is enjoying his new comfortable life. Howie is 4 years old (DOB 2/9/21) and he is a Basset Fauve de Bretagne. Howie is in good general health and tested negative to Mediterranean diseases. Howie is great with other dogs. He cannot live with cats. He could live as an only dog as long as someone was around a lot for him. This is from Howie’s foster mum: Howie is a happy, confident, affectionate little man. Loves being with people. Has met children and equally affectionate, though would definitely steal any food they might be holding. Has taken food left on the kitchen counter despite those little legs! He does need supervision or feeding separately if with another dog. Will guard toys by grumbling at another dog, but not with people. He has started to walk nicely on a lead with a Halti and getting used to travelling in the back of the car. Howls initially but settles down. Howie is crate trained and clean indoors. He is also fine in the house on a dog bed. Sleeps throughout the night He howls when any member of the family leaves the house, but again settles after 5-10 minutes. The same when we went out for a couple of hours (he was with our other dog). He IS a hound and will look for a way out of your house/garden/car. He has learned somewhere if he barges a gate the latch might click open. Fortunately our gate also has bolts. He will make a lovely family dog or individual companion for someone who is looking for a cuddle monster. Please message if you are interested with information about your family, ages of everyone in the home, existing pets & work hours. All enquiries will be looked at. We only rehome to England, Wales & Scotland. Please note: We are looking for a secure garden with fencing or walls to a minimum of 5ft. We also need the dogs to be kept on a lead, long lunge lead or for people to use enclosed fields for off lead exercise as these dogs are scent hounds & have hunting backgrounds. We do not rehome with children under 8 years old. Full rescue back up is provided.
