Description
Ben is 7 years and 10 months old.
He is gentle. He is kind. And he has already suffered more than any dog ever should.
Ben is originally from Cyprus, where he was found trapped at the bottom of a reservoir pit, squeezed tightly against another dog in a hole between rocks. They were stuck there for days — no food, no escape, no way out. 💔
It is almost certain they were deliberately abandoned in this hostile, deadly place.
Ben survived.
He was rescued just in time, at around 3 years old, and then spent almost four long years in a shelter, watching life go by, waiting for someone to choose him.
In March 2025, that day finally came.
Ben travelled to the UK to what was meant to be his forever home.
And now — heartbreakingly — he needs another one. 💔
This time, it must be forever.
Due to a sudden change in family circumstances, Ben can no longer stay where he is. This is not a dog who can be left alone, passed between people, or expected to “just cope”. He is already frightened, confused, and at risk of being failed again.
🐾 About Ben 🐾
Ben is one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs you could ever meet.
• Extremely loving and affectionate
• Needs to be close to his human — sleeps with you, cuddles on the sofa
• Playful and full of character (especially with his beloved soft ball!)
• Loves his walks and enjoys being active, but is equally happy chilling with you
• Fantastic with other dogs
• Gentle with food and toys — will happily step back rather than react
• Kind, soft-natured soul with no aggression whatsoever
Even when he is scared, Ben is never nasty. He truly does not have a bad bone in his body.
⚠️ What Ben Needs ⚠️
Ben can be nervous, particularly around men, likely due to his past. He bonds strongly to one main caregiver and feels safest when they are present. With patience and reassurance, he does improve — but he needs time, understanding and consistency.
He cannot be left alone for long periods. When distressed, he may cry or become unsettled.
He has a sensitive stomach and needs a predictable routine.
He has hound instincts — curious, nose-led, and occasionally cheeky — but not destructive.
Ben would do best in:
✔️ A calm, patient home
✔️ Someone around most of the day
✔️ A secure environment
✔️ Possibly another calm dog (with careful introductions)
Children are not a concern behaviour-wise, but sudden noise or chaos may initially overwhelm him.
Ben has already waited years for a home.
He has already been abandoned once.
He has already been let down more times than is fair.
He does not deserve to start again because life got complicated.
Ben deserves stability.
Ben deserves safety.
Ben deserves someone who will not give up on him.
