Please read, important
With a heavy heart I’m looking to find a new home for my Chinese water dragon. My health has dramatically gone downhill and I’ve gone from working full time to disabled and reliant on a carer/mobility aids. I try as much as I can but I’ve come to realise that it’s sensible and fairer for me to start looking at other options.
I rescued two Chinese water dragons off someone who had taken them into their care from a place where they were kept in horrific conditions. I’m talking water they couldn’t access, substrate that had been in the enclosure for months with dirty old receipts and trash in, they had nothing to climb on, nothing to hide behind, nothing to bask on. They had a shoddy heat lamp that had a very poor bulb which made cold basking spots and a cold enclosure and no uvb bulb what so ever. They had been like this for approx 2-3 years.
I took them on, did what I can to the enclosure (with plans to upscale when I could) and began proper care and feeding. I was told I had a boy and girl, turns out they were both girls. Unfortunately one got sick and after vet trips and round the clock care, she perked up a little and then passed away. Unfortunately due to being kept in poor conditions for so long and abuse from my local vet (the vet blinded her and wouldn’t listen when I said she had an infection which was later confirmed) she didn’t make it.
They were inseparable. My other one, the one I am now rehoming has been doing amazing. Eats amazingly (doesn’t like crickets though, roaches & morio worms are a favourite), goes to the toilet and everything all fine. It has been over a year since the last clutch of eggs though.
She does suffers from mouth rot a lot, I keep the enclosure clean and make sure she has fresh water (I also have a filter pump) she has gut loaded food with additional multivitamins and calcium. If she does ever get mouth rot I keep the area clean and dab on iodine and it usually goes away. It doesn’t seem to affect her eating at all which is good.
Her mouth is quite disfigured, we called her chip (it from was when we thought she was a boy) as she has a chip in her lip, this was like this when we got her and I’m assuming it’s because she would hit her head on the glass 24/7, that was until I gave her more enrichment and put stuff over the glass to stop any confusion. She hasn’t done it since.
She’s lovely, quite flittish and scared when handled though. She was doing amazing but the worse my health has got the less I am able to handle her and it’s not fair on her and since her friend passed she had retreated away from people quite a bit.
- [ ] She has a large Vivarium (4ft tall, 3ft Wide, 2ft Deep)
- [ ] A big water bowl with a new filter/pump
- [ ] A lamp with a 150w bulb,
- [ ] Fake foliage which is regularly replaced and disinfected
- [ ] A uvb lamp (needs a new bulb)
- [ ] Other enrichment (including ropes and branches)
- [ ] Will come with insect jelly pods (to feed) and multivitamins.
I want her to go to someone who knows what they are doing and can give her the life she deserves. If you’re interested please message me. Please be aware that on collection you will need 1) something to put her in and 2) at least two people to carry the Vivarium as it is heavy and we are on the third floor in a block of flats (the lift is too small) I will ensure it’s cleaned out and ready to take. I am asking for a small fee just as I’ve spent so much on getting them and their care. The Vivarium could do with some care it’s still a good set up. (The odd new nail/screw)
