Description

This is Buster, he is a 2 and a bit year old neutered male JRT. A bit about him.. His older brother from another litter was owned since lockdown and was never great with other dogs, people etc. Buster came along in the hopes to bring his brother out of his shell. Unfortunately due to his older brother behaviour Buster didn’t get the training or care he needed and is now a semi-anxious but reactive boy. He is only reactive in his own home, as in he is territorial. I have done several things to minimise his reactivity such as frosted stickers on the windows so he can’t see outside and people walking past, I have trained him to go into his crate when someone is at the door (he will bark and takes some coaxing but he will go in), I keep the radio on to remove reactivity to noises, use a ring doorbell to minimise knocking. All these things do help him grately, however the location of my house being on a main road and with a footpath down the side of the fence, sadly there is too many triggers for him. He has bitten a couple of times, this has not happened for months due to the training I’ve put in the precautions in place (crated for new visitors, clever introductions for people who are looking to be introduced long term, he is good at putting his muzzle on). Due to this he would not be accepted by rescues and I don’t want this for him either, I have paid for behavourist to have several sessions with us and again this has helped him greatly with some impulse control in order to get him crated when visitors are here etc. he has been fully checked over by a vet and he has used trazodone to be left alone (I work from home and so he doesn’t get left very often and is vocal when left). I am looking for someone who is experienced with the breed, someone who is home a lot or can put in the time to fully train him to be left alone. Someone who is willing to keep in touch and understand that you will need to be introduced to him a few times before he is comfortable enough to leave and be good. Some of his good bits.. and there is so many even writing this is hard. He travels well, we regularly drive from Cambridgeshire to Cumbria and he is a dream in the car. He walks well, not reactive to other dogs or people (so long as you are not close to home when his territorial behaviours kick in). He can be a little nervous near off lead bouncy dogs but he will sit next to you and wait patiently for the other dog to lead. I’ve taken him on 10k hikes before and he loves it! He is great with children, I have an 11 year old and 8 year old and he is so gentle with them. He can be boisterous when playing with me but the second it’s my youngest he knows what he’s doing, he’s careful and he doesn’t play tug as much he will drop. He can sit, give paw and lie down. He is getting better at waiting for this like the command to eat his food (but loves his food and his treats so still a work in progress). He’s a cuddly little boy, so handsome and snuggly. Loves to sleep in your bed will just burrow under your covers. Although he barks when left alone, he is not destructive. He loves to play with toys and chase balls. He will get in the bath and take a shower and has the best post shower zoomies. He is good with other dogs with careful introduction, we regularly visit our Lake District friend who had a big chocolate lab and he has a Rottweiler friend too. It took one visit for them to be ok with each other and I think a friend to play with would be great for him. Equally he is happy lapping up all your attention for himself. Conscious that I have a character count and there is so much more to say about this sweet little boy. I will be very picky about who he goes to this is absolutely not an easy decision. So please message if you would like to know more and think you can give this boy the home he deserves. He is all up to date with everything and I have all his original purchase papers and will provide papers to show transfer. I can also look to transfer ownership of the insurance meaning nothing will be pre existing. He will come with all his things, bowls, leads, harness, crate, bed, blankets toys etc and only asking for money to ensure that alongside my picky vetting he is going to someone who is serious about giving him the best life possible.
