Pavlovskaya is an ancient Russian chicken breed known for their beauty and unique appearance, including a distinctive crest and feathered legs. They are also known to be very cold-hardy and long-lived, with some individuals living 15 years or more.
By the late 1800s, Pavlovskaya hens were nearly extinct, but efforts were made to revive the breed in the 1980s. Our birds are a mixture of the Slovakian and the Russian lines, and are from non-related breeding trios. Although most birds are black and tan, we do occasionally get a white Pav chick (less than 5%). We feed the flock with breeders pellets to maximise strength of all chicks. We have tested this year with a hatch and obtained a good fertility rate
