NALA
š My Story, written by me - Nala:
Hi there. Iām Nala, and Iām really hoping you might be the person Iāve been waiting for.
I didnāt have the easiest start in life. I was abandoned at a traveller site and ended up in a pound, all alone, with nobody coming for me. I was on death row when the kind people at Paws2Freedom saved me just in time.
When I first arrived in foster, I didnāt know what a home was. Everything was strange, but my lovely foster family were gentle and patient and helped me learn what love, safety and comfort feel like.
They took me on great adventures and the beach was definitely my favourite!
But I also learned that the outside world can be a bit scary for a dog like me who has never experienced much. I started showing fear-based behaviours, especially around some other dogs and new people, men in particular. I didnāt know how to handle those feelings and my lovely foster home sadly just wasnāt the right place for that kind of support. So, I went to a special rehabilitation kennel in Devon, where Iāve been doing lots of learning. Iāve made amazing progress and now Iām ready to take the next big step into a home of my own where I can step out into the real world bit by bit.
Breed: Lurcher (Greyhound - definitely! With a touch of mystery that made me the loyal, watchful and sensitive girl I am.)
Size: Medium - slim and athletic
Sex: Female
Age: Born 13 July 2023
Neutered: Not yet. I had my second season in May 2025. Iāll be spayed once Iām settled and feeling more confident. If Iām adopted before then, my new family will need to help with this.
Vaccinated: Yes
Microchipped: Yes
Child friendly: Iām not ready to live with children
Dog friendly: Iām not ready to live with other dogs
Cat friendly: No, I would like to chase them.
Livestock/Other animals: No, Iāve got a strong chase instinct
š¾A Bit About Me:
Iām bright, sensitive, affectionate and playful.
Once I know you and trust you, Iāll be your best friend.
I love using my brain, learning new things and having a ājobā to do to keep me occupied. Even if itās something like a KONG which I love. Training is fun for me and I really enjoy working with my person. I already know some basic commands and love learning more. We will be a great team, you and me!
Iām also super fast and I love to run, especially in big open spaces where I can stretch my legs.
But Iām still learning how to cope in new or overwhelming situations. If I feel frightened or unsure, I might growl or air snap to ask for space. Iām not being aggressive - I just donāt know how else to ask for help. Iāve never bitten and Iām learning all the time how to feel more confident in the world. If I can draw strength from you and you can help me go at my own pace, Iāll get there. Promise!
While I settle in with you and you get to know more, it will be best if I wear a muzzle on walks when there might be strangers or dogs around. Itās just a sensible way to help me feel supported while I adjust and you learn more about me. I donāt mind it at all - in fact, I know it means I get to go on fun adventures!
House trained: Yes, I keep my space clean and was house trained in foster
Health: Fully vaccinated and microchipped. No known health issues. Spay planned once Iām settled.
š The Home I Dream Of:
Iād love a calm, understanding home in Cornwall or Devon only, in a rural or semi-rural area.
A secure garden is a must so I can settle in slowly without walks at first and I love to run and play! I need an adult-only home, with no other pets and people who are dog-savvy and confident with nervous dogs like me.
My perfect person will be calm, consistent and patient. Someone who wonāt rush me, but will help me feel safe and understood. In return, Iāll give you my whole heart. I have so much love to give and just need the right person to share it with.
Current Location: Kennels in Devon
š¾Meeting Me:
Once my Paws2Freedom people have approved your application, my wonderful trainer/behaviourist, Joy from CBRC, will help arrange meet and greet walks at the kennels so we can get to know each other gently, at my pace. This could take more than one meeting before I can go home with you. Sheāll also offer free ongoing support to help me settle into your home and continue to blossom as time goes on. You will never be without support.
š Could You Be the One Iām Waiting For?
