Description

Me and my partner have come to a very difficult decision to re-home our 20 month st bernard, Rubble. Rubble is a very excitable dog and we are not 100% sure if this is him being reactive/ nervous or just genuine excitement but as a result of this new people he barks at which can be intimidating due to his size. On walks ect he is like this also with seeing people and other dogs. Rubble is obviously extremely strong and even with a halti on he managed to pull my 6ft2, 14st partner into the road on his hind legs and barking when Rubble saw an old man walking along the other side of the road. This has resulted in us no longer feeling confident enough to go out for walks. My partner took him out recently again to see if it's something we can overcome because rehoming him really is something we don't want to do but unfortunately he now barks and lunges at cars going past which nearly ended very badly for them both as Rubble dragged my partner into the road several times again. None of these issues are Rubbles fault. Training was going very well but unfortunately Rubble developed panosteitis in 3 legs which stopped all training for many months. I did try just sitting outside the house with him so he could see other people walking by but he was too bouncy when he did which made him even more lame, so training him to walk on the lead and getting him used to other people had to stop. Not long after he was able to go back out he then ate a tea towel and had to have major surgery which again, stopped him from going out for another couple of months. My partners business has kicked off and now works long hours and I have a 6 month old baby and we do not have the time or knowledge that Rubble needs. This decision hasn't come easy and has taken us months of talking about it but ultimately we know that this is the right decision, not just for us but for Rubble too as he will make a lovely addition to someone's family that can invest the time into him that he deserves. Once Rubble gets to know you, you will become his best friend (whether you like it or not). He is fantastic around the children, (ages 9weeks - 8 years) and also gets on well with our male dog who is entire. He also gets on well with visitors if they come round regular and he has built a relationship with them. Please let me know if you have any other questions. If you are interested you will need to have a good understanding of larger breeds and a good knowledge with training and working with dogs. Although this is an issue that we want to try and sort we will be doing our due diligence to ensure that rubbles next home is his forever that he deserves. Price we had to put something in there. This isn't about the money it's about finding Rubble the best life.
