About Chocolate
Chocolate was brought into the shelter in Cyprus as a terrified stray by the dog warden. She was so scared when she first came in that we were worried it was going to take months to win her trust and teach her that everything was okay, but thankfully she really impressed us with her adaptability, and in just a couple of weeks she was a completely different dog - happy, tail wagging, excited to greet the volunteers and eager to interact. She’s really shown just how adaptable and resilient she is.
Now settled into her UK foster home, Chocolate has continued to surprise everyone with how well she has adjusted and how naturally she fits into a home environment. She is a gentle, thoughtful girl with moderate energy levels. Indoors she is calm and well mannered, and she is happy to relax and take things at her own pace. While she can feel a little unsure in brand new situations, she does have a quiet confidence about her and will gradually take everything in her stride. Once she feels comfortable, her affectionate and easygoing nature really shines through.
Over the last few weeks, Chocolate has gotten used to travelling, including longer journeys to places such as Swindon and Brighton, where she settled quickly and slept for most of the trip. She also spent the holidays meeting a wide range of children, from toddlers through to teenagers, and has been gentle and relaxed around them, showing little concern or over interest. She has also met cats and showed no reactivity or fixation, green flags!
Chocolate is good with other dogs and interacts very nicely with them. She lived alongside many dogs in kennels in Cyprus and coped well but did prefer small groups. While she has not yet shared a home environment with another dog, we think she could enjoy having a calm canine companion. That said, she is also perfectly capable of living as the only dog in a home (as she is now) as long as she has regular interaction and companionship from her family.
With people, Chocolate is sweet and friendly. She can be slightly reserved when first meeting someone new, but she warms up quickly and builds trust with ease. She enjoys human company and has done particularly well with the current routine, with her foster working from home, as she finds comfort in knowing that someone is nearby. She has also recently started playing with toys and especially enjoys rope toys and teddy bears, which has been lovely to see as her confidence continues to grow.
Chocolate settles nicely in her crate and now feels safe sleeping in there. She has settled extremely well since arriving in the UK and has shown herself to have lovely manners, good behaviour and a robust, adaptable character. We feel she would thrive in a family home outside of a busy city centre, ideally with access to a small garden where she can potter about and relax. Chocolate is a gentle, affectionate and trainable girl who will blossom with love, routine and a bit of patience, and she has so much to offer the family lucky enough to call her their own.
