Description
OLIVE (was Lola) is 6 years old and large in size (31kgs). She would like to be the only dog in a home with adults who tend to be around a lot during the day. Olive is worried about children, and is happier to avoid them. She will need someone who understands shepherd breed type dogs.
Sadly, Olive is looking for a new home as she is struggling to share her human’s attention with her other doggy housemate. She generally likes her housemate, but when she is afraid, she tends to blame him for it. The family are devastated to be making this decision, but they feel it is in Olive’s best interests. She’s described as, “a lovely funny dog who will be sorely missed.”
At home, Olive is an easy dog. She doesn’t chew and can be left for a while, and often uses that time to catch up with her snoozes. When alone, she may also fancy a little mooch about the house, but doesn’t cause any damage. Her favourite places to nap are the bed or the sofa. At night time she is used to sleeping next to her family’s bed.
Since adolescence, Olive is a little bit worried about meeting other dogs when on a walk. However, she has been trained with the “distract-mark-treat” method, allowing you to cross the road or find an alternative route away from the other dog, and she’s great to walk with this strategy in place. She does love a walk and a sniff, and maybe a short game of ball.
When off the lead, Olive does have good recall, but would need to be let off somewhere when there are no other dogs. That said, she does have a cockapoo doggy friend, who she is great with. Like a lot of dogs, she picks and chooses which other dogs she feels safe with.
She is very treat orientated, and this has been used to good effect in her training. She will wait to eat until you tell her she can start. She’ll even get off the sofa if you ask her to. Olive really is eager to please, and does her best to be a good doggy, even if she still needs a bit of guidance in how to do that.
Shepherd breeds usually struggle with visitors to the home, and Olive will put on a good show of protecting the property. However, she has always been OK with confident people, and usually makes friends with them within 10 minutes. If someone is nervous, she will pick up on this and be nervous herself. In this situation, she is used to being popped in another room or the garden.
Olive is a lucky girl who has benefitted from a family who have learned so much about her and who have worked with her to support her physical and mental health. We will ensure that the wealth of information they have provided about her is passed on to her new family.
We know that if you love your shepherd breed dogs that Olive is going to be a great companion for you. She desperately needs someone to love her in a home where she’ll be the only doggy in your heart.
