Description
Our stunning male 1 year and 11 month old Rottweiler Jett is very sadly up for sale and looking for his new forever home. Due to changes in our circumstances at home we unfortunately no longer have the time to give Jett the exercise and attention that he really needs on a day to day basis.
We re-homed Jett when he was 7 months old back in May of 2024 from first time dog owners who had admitted to biting off more than they could chew when getting Jett as a puppy.
We unfortunately only have limited information on Jett’s heritage as he was initially purchased by his first owner from a family friend/breader. We do have the contact details of the breeder should you wish to gather further details of Jett. As you can see he has a massive head, very good bone structure and perfect pigmentation for a Rottweiler. So we are fairly certain he comes from a strong background/lineage and has huge potential. He is all up to date with Jabs/flee and worming.
Jett has basic house hold training (sit, wait, paw, toilet training etc) but does require a lot of training with regards to walking, being in pubic spaces a d with his aggression. Jett is very good off lead and doesn’t wander to far, however if there are other dogs in the vicinity he does go back on lead for the above reasons.
While Jett has always been ok around our Son and generally keeps himself to himself, we would recommend that he goes to a household with no children.
Over the past couple of months we have been putting Jett through his training every week with a rotty specialist, this is due to him not being ready for a new home because of his unpredictable behaviour. To which we have seen a great improvement with regards to the training side of things outside the house, inside the house is still not great though unfortunately as he picks and chooses what mood he is in every single day. We have seen an improvement with his everyday behaviour due to putting other smaller things in place at home, but it can be very on and off. Such as only giving him allocated play time to prevent him from causing mischief when bored, timeouts when misbehaving or not listening outside rather than in his cage, no raised voices within the house to try and have a bit more patience with him (can be very difficult with us having a baby as well). He does very much listen but does need to be told a couple of times. Jett is still a bit naughty when on his lead as he pulls quite a lot, however once checked and pulled back he does generally listen. He waits and sits on command he just gets carried away with sniffing. He is still not fond of new people at all so interactions for him are basically non existent as we haven’t got to this point in his training yet. However, he is now ok with his trainer who he obviously wasn’t with at first. He isn’t overly keen on being fussed and can show warning signs if he is fussed even a little bit too much, therefore he is still showing the very dominant behaviour he has been showing for the past 5 months or so. Therefore, unfortunately no “meet and greets” can take place as they never go well for him, which will be waste of both yours and our time. We went through a patch of a few months where Jett was stand off-ish and even aggressive towards me and my wife. For the past 2 months he has been stand offish with me but not with my wife (which was a start as she is currently off on maternity). We have noticed when he has his allocated play time he is like a different dog, but for some unknown reason can come up to us on the sofa for a fuss, but then upon trying he gets defensive and stand offish. While Jett can be such a well behaved dog and show great moments of the pure rotty breed that we know and love, we just can’t risk the unpredictability around our 6 month old as he will soon be mobile. Jett and our soon get on very well (better than with us), however all we can think of is the “what if”. That is something we are unwilling to risk. This weekend Jett was having a great day, he went out for his hour walk where he was let off in the field, did a few bits of training which went really well. We then returned home to which he proceeded to chill outside the back door (standard behaviour for Jett after a walk) about an hour later he approached my wife on the sofa, he was nudging her for fusses which she happily gave him. In a sudden moment when she looked away from him to speak, Jett decided he didn’t want to be fussed anymore and gave no warning sign before biting my wife on her hand. He was making so much progress and hadn’t displayed any of this behaviour for so long which we thought he’d turned over a new leaf, we realised the training wouldn’t change him overnight but this is something that we are just unwilling to risk around our son.
Jett clearly has some from of resentment towards us that he cannot move past which is heartbreaking for us. We therefore have no choice but just re-home jett ASAP. Jett needs someone to love him and give him the exercise and space that he needs.
We understand this isn’t the best of messages but we are being fully transparent so his new owners knows fully what to expect to give him the best chance. Jett 100% need’s to carry on his training to ensure he doesn’t have this attitude towards anyone else. If we cannot rehome Jett our only other option is to send him away to one of these well known places. Even though Jett has acted this way he is still our baby and we want the best for him.
Anyone willing to take him on will have our full support and contact if they should need it.
