Description

We have for rehoming an absolutely stunning example of the breed. His name is Rome and is going on 18 months old and was, due to no fault of his own, returned to us at approx 10 months old. He came to us with an array of difficulties, mainly due to a lack of socialisation by the previous owner. We have consistently worked on him whilst fostering and he is ready to leave to the right home. That being said, it is of extreme importance that he is placed in the correct home, as he still has a long way to go before he could be considered stable. He is nervous and very anxious. He isn't aggressive towards people but he is extremely scared by them. He is however reactive to other dogs. He walks well on lead and is pretty manageable but due to his reactive tendencies towards dogs if they are allowed to come close, or if he is allowed to go towards them, he has on occasions lunged towards them without warning. It is hugely advised he is walked on a muzzle. We have been socialising him with friends dogs with a muzzle on, to help him socialise and he has began to show promise. In the house, his only issue is he is very guarding of the property. Im possibly making him sound worse than he is but you need to know what you are getting with him. He needs a home without dogs and preferably without young children. He is fine with our children but he needs someone who has the time to continue his rehabilitation. His forever home needs to be with either a single person or couple that works from home/part time/ retired and can handle a very powerful dog. His good bits are plain to see on viewing once he gets to know you. He is incredibly loving, sweet and affectionate and away from his nervous reactiveness, he is one of the nicest dogs we have ever had. Unfortunately we just dont have the space, nor time to cater for his needs further as we have 3 Bullmastiffs of our own. He needs someone that can walk him twice a day at a minimum of an hour each time. Someone who will take him everywhere with them, including the pub, markets, busy town centres and anywhere else that will continue to help his socialising needs. Only the ideal home will suffice and he won't be let go otherwise. He is not for sale, however, we do want a small reimbursement for his neutering which he will undergo prior to leaving. The cost of this will be in the region of £300 to £500 at a guess but a receipt will be provided from the vet for proof of cost. This will hopefully also assist in reducing his reactiveness and anxiety. Please only enquire if you are serious and know what you are doing when it comes to rehabilitation of this breed. Please dont be offended if we say no, we just know exactly what kind of home he needs and doesn't need.
