Description
🐾 Aiko – gentle one-eyed American Akita with a heart of gold 🐾
His story:
Aiko’s life once hung by a thread. He was rescued from the public shelter/kill station, where large dogs like him rarely survive. Nobody knows exactly what happened to his missing eye – but what we do know is that this gentle giant never lost his trust in people.
Today, Aiko is safe in our private shelter, waiting patiently for someone to notice him.
He may only have one eye, but he sees straight into your heart. His other eye seems to function well – he moves confidently, enjoys human contact, and walks nicely on the lead (still learning, but eager to please).
📅 Estimated DoB: 01/01/2021
📏 Height: approx. 65–70 cm (can be measured precisely on request)
🏷 Breed: Purebred American Akita
🐾 Character: Gentle, loyal, intelligent, affectionate
🐕 Good with dogs: Yes – prefers calm companions (female recommended)
👫 Good with people: Very friendly and respectful
🏡 Ideal home: Experienced adopters familiar with large, strong dogs; secure, man-height fencing; calm environment with daily companionship
Looks & charm:
Aiko is a stunning, purebred American Akita, standing proudly with that typical Akita presence – broad head, curled tail, powerful frame and calm, intelligent expression.
Despite his size, there’s an unmistakable gentleness in his eyes and in every movement.
He’s a dog whose quiet dignity commands respect, yet whose kind gaze melts hearts.
Character:
Aiko is the definition of a gentle soul in a strong body.
He’s friendly and affectionate with people, kind with other dogs, and radiates quiet strength and dignity. Like all Akitas, he is loyal, intelligent and observant – nothing escapes his attention.
He’s calm, patient and eager to learn, especially when treated with positive reinforcement, consistency and respect. Once he trusts you, he will follow you through wind and rain – a true partner for life.
Because of his natural instincts, Aiko isn’t suited for busy households or adopters who are away all day.
He will thrive best with experienced adopters who understand large, strong breeds, and who can offer calm, confident and reward-based guidance. Such dogs are wonderfully loyal and responsive when given the right leadership – they simply need clarity, respect and trust.
Ideal home:
Aiko deserves a peaceful, loving home where he can finally belong.
A secure, dog-proof garden with tall (man-height or higher) fencing and gates is essential – he loves being outside, feeling the fresh air and quietly observing the world around him.
He doesn’t need constant activity, but he does need presence, structure and the feeling of being part of a loyal “pack.”
If there’s another calm dog in the home, we would prefer a female, as this is usually an easier and safer match for a male Akita. However, it’s not essential – what matters most is kindness, balance and time.
He may have lost an eye, but he hasn’t lost his spirit.
✨ With his one eye, Aiko looks straight into your soul – and all he asks in return is love, safety, and a place to finally call home.
Let’s make this Aiko’s year – maybe his first real Christmas in a warm home, after so long waiting behind bars.
📩 CONTACT
Friends InDeed Animal Rescue is a registered charity.
A home check (sometimes online) is required before any adoption.
We do not place dogs with people who don’t genuinely love them – too many lives depend on us, and we can’t take risks.
To adopt AIKO, you must have your own secure garden and no children under 10 years old.
We do not provide working, therapy or assistance dogs – however noble the purpose may be.
If you adopt Aiko, he will live as a loved family companion, cared for and cherished as he truly deserves.
You also agree to stay in touch so we can support you and receive updates.
We prefer communication via phone or WhatsApp, as we both work during the day with limited email access – it’s faster and more personal.
If you wish, we can arrange a video call so you can see Aiko live before meeting him in person.
We are a 100% genuine and transparent rescue, fully dedicated to saving lives.
We’re also active in sterilisation campaigns for stray dogs and always do our best to cover as much as we can – though adoption donations rarely meet our full costs.
We stay in contact with all our adopters – now over 500 families – and can provide excellent references on request.
⚠️ Please note: we receive many irrelevant messages and calls.
Kindly, no time wasters. Thank you for your compassion and understanding.
With gratitude,
Adrian & Maria
