Description
Carli has only been with her fosters for a short time, but she has quickly impressed everyone with how well she has settled in. From the very first night she slept through without any issues. She has her own little area with a crate and pen, where she feels safe and secure. As a young pup she does enjoy chewing, but she responds well to gentle redirection.
Toilet training is going extremely well. Having her foster- brothers to copy has certainly helped, but Carli is also recognising her toilet commands and is showing great understanding. As her confidence grows, her cheeky little character is beginning to shine through.
Carli has coped wonderfully with visitors to the home and accepted her harness without hesitation. She recently enjoyed her very first walk and absolutely loved the experience. Her carers are keeping outings fun while gradually introducing lead-walking skills as she waits for her forever home.
Food is a huge motivator for Carli, which makes training enjoyable for her. She has already learned to sit and continues to pick things up very quickly. She is comfortable in the company of other dogs, including her large foster-brothers, and she has shown no interest at all in the resident elderly cat.
Carli is small but speedy, and once fully developed, she will no doubt make a wonderful companion for someone active and loving.
Latest Update
On today’s walk, Carli showed even more confidence. She is curious and friendly when meeting other dogs, comfortable around women, and understandably a little wary of men. She is still nervous of heavy traffic, so her fosters are sticking to quieter roads and carrying her along the busier sections for now.
Carli has settled beautifully into a routine. She knows the word “bed” and responds instantly, and she continues to master “sit.” She gets very excited about her food but is learning patience—when told “Carli, bed” for feeding time, she runs to her pen, sits, and waits. She is happy being left for short periods and relaxes well with the boys. In a home where she would be an only dog, she may need some extra support and patience while adjusting, but she has all the makings of a loving, loyal companion.
Her Story
Carli was found abandoned along with her four siblings and their mother in our volunteer’s village. Sadly, the locals did not want them there and began throwing stones and hitting them with sticks to drive them away to the outskirts of the area.
With their safety at serious risk, our team stepped in immediately to bring the little family into our care.
