Pavlovskaya is an ancient Russian chicken breed known for their beauty and unique appearance, including a distinctive crest and feathered legs. They are also known to be very cold-hardy and long-lived, with some individuals living 15 years or more.
By the late 1800s, Pavlovskaya hens were nearly extinct, but efforts were made to revive the breed in the 1980s. Our birds are a mixture of the Slovakian and the Russian lines, with non-related breeding trios. Although most chicks are black and tan, we do occasionally get a white Pav chick (less than 5%). We feed the flock with breeders pellets to maximise fertility and send in polystyrene eggs boxes, to minimise damage in the post.
We have tested this year with a hatch and obtained a good fertility rate. However, please be aware that sending via the post can reduce the success rate.
Please also note that when we have more orders than the hens can lay we operate a waiting list – first come, first served.
We have been selling these eggs to help to reestablish the breed for three years now. This year we are adding Barbu D'Uccle Millefleur and Araucana (blue eggs) hatching eggs – contact for more details.
