Description
The next generation of our Whippet x Miniature Poodle lurchers are here, and we have one brindle, one black and one brindle & white boy still unreserved. These little lurchers have been carefully bred to have the elegant good looks of the whippet combined with the high intelligence, trainability, eagerness to please and lesser prey drive of the poodle. We have blacks (which will develop a dark grey rough coat), brindles, a brindle & white and a black & white.
There is evidence that the sighthound poodle was the very first type of lurcher going back to around the 12th century. These puppies have been bred to excel at agility, flyball and to be adored family pets. Their progress, from birth, can be followed on my Elaine Celticmoon Day facebook page where new owners can see how our dogs and puppies live their very best lives.
OUR PUPPIES are raised within our home and soon get to know our adult dogs, cat, donkeys and hens. We follow a proven programme of socialisation and habituation to ensure that our puppies mature into confident and happy adults. The dam of this litter is a show line, Kennel Club registered whippet who is DNA health tested clear for degenerative myelopathy, glycogen storage disease VII, hyperuricosuria and muscular hypertrophy. The sire is a Kennel Club register miniature poodle who is DNA health tested clear for progressive retinal atrophy, degenerative myelopathy, gangliosidosis, neonatal encephalopathy, osteochondrodysplasia and von Willebrands type 1. Both parents adhere to the Kennel Club breed standard and both are much loved family members with wonderful temperaments.
We are using a relatively new vaccine, Versican Plus, which enables us to inoculate at 6 & 9 weeks with puppies being fully covered and able to go out and about meeting new dogs and having new experiences, so there is no gap in their socialisation education.
Our puppies are taught recall (meaning they come back when called) and bite inhibition so that they don't nip and bite as puppies. We have taught them simple commands and have a fundamental understanding of housetraining. We have specialised in this particular strain of small rough coated lurcher for some years and our emphasis is to breed for robust health, excellent temperaments and beautiful good looks. Many of our puppies have gone on to excel at agility and flyball but their very best occupation is to be fully paid up members of a loving family.
OUR NEW OWNERS GET copies of both parents' Kennel Club pedigrees and DNA health certificates, inoculation certificate, microchip in the new owner's name, five weeks' KC insurance, enough premium wet and dry food for the first couple of weeks and a bottle of our water to aid transition, collar & lead, toys, scent blanket and our extensive breed and training notes. Our puppies are sold with a contract which incorporates a 28 day health and temperament money back guarantee. We will, of course, give lifetime support and will always take a dog back at any time should an owner's circumstances ever change.
ABOUT ME - I am a caring, ethical and professional breeder who has been breeding lurchers and sighthounds since the early 1970s. I am licenced and adhere to strict health and welfare regulations with all my dogs having an extensive vet health check annually.
You will find photos of the parents of this litter along with photos of puppies previously bred to show how they mature. My dogs and puppies can be seen on my dedicated facebook page - Elaine Celticmoon Day - so that everyone can see how our dogs live their lives and how our puppies are reared. I am happy to chat about this breed to anyone who would like more information.
