Description
Once upon a perch, two lovebirds found each other, and the world has not been the same since.
Meet Lovey (born April 2024) and Shadow (born 12 December 2024), a pair so inseparable that even Shakespeare would have admired their devotion.
Their Story
Lovey is no ordinary bird. She is a thinker, a strategist, and a little queen with strong opinions. When she comes to you, it is never for flattery or attention. She comes with purpose, expecting you to understand what she needs. Perhaps you forgot her spray millet, hemp seeds, fresh vegetables, or her daily share of sugar-snap peas and baby corn. Or maybe her paper factory is running out of stock.
When nesting season arrives, she becomes an architect with unmatched focus and creativity. She proudly tucks strips of paper under her feathers and walks around like a tiny peacock. She does not do this to look pretty but to transport building materials to her nest. Lovey is also particular, she refuses ordinary paper and demands soft, colourful sheets with just the right thickness. Her standards are high, but her determination is higher. I will include her favourite paper supply to start, if she has not already turned it into confetti.
Lovey once chewed through all my research notes to build her perfect nest, I am still recovering from that act of devotion.
Shadow, her loyal husband, is her calm protector. He is gentle, affectionate, and never far from her side. They eat together, nap together, and even watch YouTube lovebird videos. Whenever they see other birds on-screen, they rush to check behind the TV or tablet to find the magic door and invite them home.
Their Lifestyle
Their favourite place is a custom flat hanger by the window, their personal penthouse with a view. From there, they nap, relax, and watch the outside world while feeling safe from crows, squirrels, and the weather.
Lovey and Shadow are curious, clever, and sometimes mischievous. They are known for their failed attempts to steal shiny or forbidden things such as tea, fizzy drinks, chocolate, or pencil erasers, all of which are dangerous for them. They enjoy being hand-fed, spoken to, and even sung to. That is how they bond and show trust. They are not just pets, but tiny hearts with wings who know when you care.
Their Diet
Their daily menu includes grated boiled egg, raw grated carrot, finely chopped lightly cooked broccoli tops, and fresh salad vegetables sprinkled with young millet seeds. This soft and nutritious diet is essential, especially if they ever raise chicks, and should always be served at room temperature.
