The next generation of our own strain of little lurcher, and we still have one black, one brindle and one white & brindle boy unreserved. These whippet x miniature poodle lurchers have been specifically bred to have the elegant good looks of the whippet combined with the high intelligence, ease of training and eagerness to please of the poodle. We have blacks (which will develop a dark grey rough coat), brindles, and white & black and a brindle & black. There is evidence that the sighthound x poodle was the earliest type of lurcher, dating back to the 12th century. This litter's progress can be followed, from birth, on my Elaine Celticmoon Day facebook page which enables potential new owners to see that our dogs and puppies have the very best lives with us.
OUR PUPPIES are raised in our home alongside our adult dogs, and get to know the cat, donkeys and hens. We ensure that our puppies follow a proven programme of socialisation and habituation so that they mature into happy and confident adults. We only ever breed first cross lurchers and the dam is a show line, Kennel Club registered whippet who is DNA health tested clear for degenerative myelopathy, glycogen storage disease VII, hyperuricosuria and muscular hypertrophy. The sire of the litter is a stunning Kennel Club registered miniature poodle who is DNA health tested clear for progressive retinal atrophy, degenerative myelopathy, gangliosidosis, neonatal encephalopathy, osteochondrodysplasia and von Willebrands type 1. Both parents are family dogs who adhere to the Kennel Club breed standard and have wonderful friendly temperaments.
We are using a relatively new vaccine called Versican Plus which enables us to inoculate at six and nine weeks, with puppies being fully covered and able to go out and about meeting other dogs and continuing their socialisation education from the day that they leave us. We have specialised in this particular strain of small lurcher for many years and our puppies excel at sports such as agility and flyball, but make the most wonderful family pets.
Our puppies are recall trained (meaning they will come back when called) and are taught bite inhibition so that they don't nip and bite. They have a fundamental understanding of simple commands and housetraining. They have been handled since birth and will undergo two thorough veterinary checks before they leave us which will include heart, eyes, ears, teeth etc.
OUR NEW OWNERS GET copies of both parents' KC pedigrees and their DNA health certificates, inoculation certificate, microchip in the new owner's name, five weeks' KC insurance, premium wet and dry food for the first couple of weeks along with vouchers, a bottle of our water to aid transition, collar + lead, toys, scent blanket, and our extensive breed and training notes etc. Our puppies are sold with a contract which incorporates a 28 day health & temperament money back guarantee.
We will, of course, offer lifetime support and will always take a dog back at any time should your circumstances ever change.
ABOUT ME - I am a caring, knowledgeable, ethical and professional breeder who has been breeding top quality lurchers and sighthounds since the early 1970s. I have successfully shown deerhounds and whippets throughout the UK at Championship level, with one of my hounds becoming lifetime qualified for Crufts. I am a trained (retired!) pet dog trainer and behaviourist and have written many articles for specialist canine publications. I am a licenced breeder and comply with strict welfare regulations.
