Description

Kyoto is a small to medium sized (around 14kg) Shiba Inu first cross ready for adoption by a loving family. She is microchipped, vaccinated, vet health checked and is booked to be spayed on Thursday 18th Sept. Kyoto came into rescue because her previous family were unable to fulfil her needs. She's a bright, intelligent little dog, very quick to learn and enjoys her training and problem solving. Her adopter will need to commit to her ongoing training and boundary setting. She's currently in a home foster with 6 resident dogs and various temporary visitors and gets on with them all! Her foster mum is a dog walker, and Kyoto walks very happily with a huge variety of dogs every day. As a very active dog who can get bored easily she'll best suit an equally active family who have timed to give her the exercise she loves and needs. Kyoto didn't get much exposure or opportunity to interact with other dogs in her previous home and although she gets on well with all dogs she is still learning the rules of socialising and can get a little excitable and pushy when playing with dogs or humans. She's still learning what behaviour might be considered excessive but responds instantly to a correction from either human or dog. For this reason she would be better in a home with older children. She loves games of chase and would be very happy with a doggy brother or sister with a similar energy level. At home, she's very happy to amuse herself with a toy or a chew and doesn't persistently demand attention. Kyoto is confident in public and is quite at home visiting cafés, pubs, a market or the garden centre. She travels well in a car or van, walks nicely on the lead and now goes off lead with perfect recall. She will sit for treats and share nicely even if amongst 15 other dogs (videos available!) and has no food possession issues. Incidentally, she's also great around horses and visits the stables with her foster mum! Kyoto is crate trained and can be left in her crate for a couple of hours where she'll simply sleep. She's less settled left out of the crate home alone, so an adopter would need to continue her crate training for the foreseeable future. As Kyoto has many of the typical Shiba Inu characteristics, her adopter will need to either have previous experience, have extensively researched or be familiar with the breed. The Shiba Inu is probably not a dog for a novice owner and has it's 'quirks' but is a very rewarding, hugely intelligent and loyal breed. We would expect applicants to have a knowledge of the breed traits and no unrealistic expectations. Kyoto is living in Worthing, West Sussex and applicants living close enough to make several meetings and visits with her will be preferred. We believe in 100% honesty about every dog we offer for adoption and offer lifelong rescue backup and support......
