10 Popular Mixed Breed Dogs

Over recent times mixed breed dogs have earned themselves a reputation for being some of the nicest canines to have as family pets. Apart from being so cute, many mixed breeds don't shed either which is great for dog loving people who suffer from allergies. Careful breeding has seen a collection of wonderful characters appearing on the scene, each with its own unique personality and characteristics. Below is a list of 10 popular hybrid dog breeds or mixed dog breeds which lots of people have chosen to keep as family pets and companions.

1. The Adorable Looking Puggle

When it comes to personality, looks and size, the adorable Puggle has it all. These smallish canines stand at just over a foot tall at the shoulder and they only weigh in at around 18 to 30 lbs, they also boast a life span of between 10 to 15 years. Puggles are a result of crossing a Beagle with a Pug.

This little cross breed is very cute and makes a great family pet, getting along with other animals and good around children. The one thing about Puggles is they do tend to like the sound of their own voices, hence can be prone to barking. But they are intelligent little creatures and always eager to please which means Puggles are easy to train.

2.The Cuter Than Cute Maltipoo

Maltipoos are the result of crossing a Maltese with a Poodle. These clever little creatures are extremely affectionate as well as being fun to have around. They are small dogs standing anything between 8” to 1' 2” inches tall at the shoulder and they weigh in at anything from 5 to 20 lbs.

A Maltipoo is an active little dog and is a great choice as a family pet for people living in either an apartment or house. They are particularly good with children and the elderly. This delightfully natured cross breed boasts a life span of anything from 10 to 13 years.

3. The Loving & Affectionate Labradoodle

Over the years, Labradoodles have gained popularity throughout the world. They are affectionate, intelligent and extremely smart looking canines being the successful result of crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Poodle.

Labradoodles are largish dogs, standing at around 1' 9” tall at their shoulder. They weigh in at anything from 50 to 65 lbs and boast a life span of 12 to 14 years. Originally bred as being hypo-allergenic guide dogs by the Royal Guide Dogs Association in Australia, these sociable dogs make wonderful family pets with the bonus of them not shedding their coats too much.

4. The Aptly Named Goldendoodle

Also affectionately known as a Groodle, this lovely cross breed is yet another success story in the looks and personality department. Goldendoodles are the result of cross breeding a Golden Retriever with a Poodle.

For a mixed breed canine, Goldendoodles are largish dogs measuring around 1' 8 “ tall at their shoulder and weighing in at anything from 50 to 90 lbs. They have proven themselves to make wonderful family pets and live for around 10 to 15 years. These lovely looking dogs were originally bred to be a larger alternative to the popular Cockapoo and today they are gaining quite a fan base.

5. The Maltese Shih Tzu

This delightful looking cross breed is the result of crossing a Maltese with a Shih Tzu. They are clever little dogs that stand at around 10” tall at the shoulder, usually weighing in at anything from 6 to 12 lbs. The Maltese Shih Tzu boasts a life span of between 12 to 14 years.

They are often referred to as Mal-shi, Malti zu or the Malt-Tzu, and are one of the only cross breeds that doesn't boast any Poodle in its lineage. Small and lively, the Maltese Shih Tzu makes a wonderful companion and is a particularly good choice for people who suffer with allergies because they don't shed too much. These little darlings love playing with children too which means they make fantastic pets for families with young kids.

6. The Delightfully Named & Looking Cockapoo

This sweet looking canine is the result of crossing a Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle, and boasts being the original “designer dog”. Height wise, the breed stands at just over a foot at the shoulder and weighs in at around 19 lbs.

Cockapoos are delightful small characters with a reputation of being the clowns of the canine world. They first appeared on the scene in the sixties and are absolutely 100% people oriented which makes them very easy to train. These clever dogs live anything from 12 to 15 years and make superb family pets. Their kind nature means they are often used as “therapy” dogs.

7. The Very Pretty Schnoodle

Schnoodles are a result of crossing a Poodle with a Schnauzer as the name suggests, and are known to be very good therapy dogs. They are also pretty good at showing off their talents as performance dogs. They are smallish dogs measuring around 1 to 2” tall at their shoulder, sometimes a couple of inches more. They weigh in at anything from 20 to 75 lbs and boast a life span of 10 to 15 years.

Schnoodles make great family pets, they are active, smart and very loving. They really have taken the best out of both breeds, the willingness to please of the Poodle and the sturdiness of the adorable schnauzer.

8. The Pretty Peekapoo

Peekapoos are the result of crossing a Pekingnese with a Poodle and they've been around for fifty years or so. They are very loyal little dogs measuring up to 11” tall at their shoulder. They weigh in at anything from 4 to 20 lbs and boast a life span of 10 to 15 years.

Anyone looking for a companion dog, would not go far wrong in choosing a Peekapoo, they are loyal little creatures that can be rather protective of the people they love.

9. The Gorgeous Yorkipoo

The result of crossing a delightful Yorkshire Terrier and a Miniature Poodle, Yorkipoos are absolutely gorgeous little canines. They only measure anything from 7” to a foot high at their shoulder and weigh in at a mere 4 lbs right up to 14 lbs. They also boast a life span of 10 to 15 years.

This is one mixed breed that is hilarious to have around, they are affectionate, intelligent, playful and very gentle. They do like the sound of their own voices and therefore are prone to barking. But they do make great companions for anyone who lives in an apartment even if they are quite talkative.

10. The Devoted Goldador

The Goldador is the result of crossing a Golden Retriever with a Labrador Retriever – a superb mix that produces a good-natured canine. They are largish dogs measuring anything from just under 2' to 2' tall at their shoulder. They weigh in at anything from 60 to 80 lbs and boast a life span of 10 to 15 years.

Goldadors are very devoted dogs that boast loads of energy but they are so good-natured that they make the perfect family pet. They are brilliant around children and get on well with other pets, making them one of the most genial, smart looking canines to have around the home.
