The Kurilian Bobtail cat, also known as Kuril Islands Bobtail, Kuril Bobtail, Kurile Bobtail, Curilsk Bobtail, Kurilean, is a cat breed that originated in the Kuril Islands, an area claimed by both Japan and Russia and geographically close to both. Cats of this breed are also found on Russia"s Kamchatka Peninsula and in Japan Sakhalin Island. The breed is also known by several other names, including Kuril bobtail, Kuril Islands bobtail, Curilisk bobtail, and Kurilean.
