5 years, Male, Medium Mixed Breed (Springer spaniel size)
Tony arrived with us in April and has not had interest since. He has faced abuse from humans which can be seen on the top of his nose. Humans have used a metal rod and burned his nose. This is still practiced in Romanian villages and it is believed to toughen the dog up and protect from distemper. It doesn't and unfortunately this abuse has led Tony to be very nervous of new people.
He is very food motivated and will come and take food from your hands when he trusts you a little more.
He is not ready to have strokes or tickles at the moment and needs a quiet home that will give him all the time in the world to come on at his own pace.
Tony does have a friend called Liza that he socialises with but he is frightened of other dogs. He has scars all over his body from dog attacks so it is understandable as to why he is frightened. He needs to live as an only dog but may be able to make friends in future.
Tony cannot walk on a lead at the moment, all he needs right now is a safe 1-2-1 environment to allow him to explore and trust his humans at his own pace. Tony cannot be forced to do things a 'normal' dog can and needs to be able to do this when he is ready.
Can you give Tony his first safe-haven?
